Learn About The Man Who Inspired The World’s Largest One-Day Cancer Research Fundraiser

Advertisement In 1977, at the young age of 18 years old, Terry Fox found out that he was dying of cancer. At the time, Terry was a successful athlete at Simon Fraser University as both a distance runner and a basketball player. Soon after his diagnosis, Terry underwent an operation that left him without a right leg. This is when the legend of Terry Fox began.  Terry’s trek across Canada made him a hero to many and the grief of his death was shared by the entire country. Today he is memorialized in statues, documentaries, and most notably in the Terry Fox Run For Cancer Research. The charitable run was founded in 1981 and is now supported in over 60 countries. It is also the world’s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research.  The 24th Annual Terry Fox run takes place on Sunday, September 20. You can participate and find out more about the organization here: http://www.terryfox.org/Run/  Read more: http://www.wimp.com/terry-fox-memorial-run-canada/

A 65-Year Secret Is Unveiled And Finally Reunites A Mother And Her Son

Every once in a while, a story comes along that’s so unbelievable you can’t help but be affected by it. The story of Tawana Jo Yadon and her son sounds like it could be the plot of a blockbuster film, but that description doesn’t do their experience justice. Tawana and Fred’s journey is so full of genuine love and determination that it could never truly be captured onscreen.  Given up for adoption in 1945, Fred Kiser never stopped thinking about his biological mother. He began searching for her identity in 1971 and didn’t give up despite the numerous obstacles that got in his way. We won’t spoil how things end up, but we hope that their story serves as a beacon of hope for anyone searching for a loved one. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/mother-son-reunited-years-later/

128,000 Dominoes Fall To Break 2 Guinness World Records

In a world that has been consumed by digital forms of entertainment, it’s good to see that dominoes are still popular in some circles. Enjoyed by many cultures and people from all over the world, dominoes are thought to have actually originated from China prior to the Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368). Since that time, many local variations of games using dominoes have been developed and played, but one of the most universal pastimes involving the tiles is lining them up to fall in a prolonged chain reaction. Domino chain reactions are a hobby and pastime to some, but to others it’s very serious business. The team that set up the domino show that is featured in this video goes by the name of The Sinners Domino Production. Based in Germany, the group consists of 17 builders who share a common goal: “Always to inspire the audience and entertain.” In accomplishing this goal, the group has managed to break 19 world records – something they definitely should be proud of. The setup featured in the video below took the group weeks to construct inside of a small gymnasium in Büdingen, Germany. The painstaking process of setting up 127,414 tiles of dominoes seems almost insane when toppling them took only seven minutes. In the process, however, the group managed to break the world records of destroying the largest domino wall ever built and the largest 3-D pyramid of dominoes ever built. Showcasing cultures from all over the world, this thematic display of toppling dominoes is nothing short of impressive. This Mom’s Experiment Proves That Bottled Water Is Not As “Healthy” As It Claims

Among the many things that I had an interesting time adjusting to when I first came to the United States was the fact that everyone was drinking bottled water. Don’t get me wrong, I’m originally from India, where the water is not safe to drink otherwise, so the bottles themselves weren’t the weird part. What was odd for me was the fact that well-to-do people who definitely had clean, drinkable tap water were still buying crates of water. It just seemed a little redundant. Now, I’ve been here long enough to realize that the tap water in America might not always be the most reliable (*cough cough* Flint *cough*), but in most places (and especially where I live), the tap water is fine. In fact, some studies have even shown that in a few parts of the country the tap water can even be cleaner than some of the leading bottled water brands. With all the brands out there, it’s easy to get confused when trying to choose the right one to buy. Holly Inskeep, a mom from Ohio, recently uploaded this video to her Facebook page, where it’s been seen over two million times already! In it, she and her son Carson use pH strips to test 9 samples of water – 8 from popular water brands (Aquafina, Dasani, Evian, Fiji, Pure Life, Smart, Sam’s, and Voss) and one “control” sample of tap water that they ran through a Brita filter. The results are pretty surprising. They found that out of all nine samples, only three were not acidic (Evian, Fiji, and the Brita filter water). Although the information presented here is hardly a rigorously conducted medical trial, it’s something to think about. In recent years, foods that create an acidic environment in the body have been getting linked to an increased risk of cancer, so it may not be the worst idea to invest in a home water filter. See If You Can Pass This Vision Test

Going the eye doctor can be quite the pain. You have to dilate your eyes and go through all sorts of tests that seem to take forever. Worst of all, they give you those awful paper sunglasses. Picking out glasses can be a fun experience but everything that comes with it is often miserable. If only there was a quicker way to evaluate your vision.  OK, this might not be the most medically accurate way to measure your vision, or medically accurate at all, but it’s still a fun test to see how sharp your eyesight is. The test was developed by YouTuber BigKnows and he wants to stump you by lining paragraphs of a single number or letter together and asking you to pick out the one difference. If you think this sounds difficult, you’re right. It has been said that only 33% of adults can fully complete this challenge.  Try it first without glasses on, and if you are having trouble try it again with your glasses on. If you still can’t get it with your glasses on, you may want to think about changing your prescription. We tried this test at the offices and it was just as difficult as advertised. One person was able to complete it entirely but the rest of us got tripped up. I might be having to make a trip to the eye doctor sometime soon.  Read more: http://www.wimp.com/put-your-eyes-to-the-test/

Two Dogs Interrupt A Soccer Game

The world’s most popular sport is apparently popular with other species, as well. Who knew? When these two dogs run out on the field in the middle of a game, you might be surprised by the reactions of some of the players. After all, they’re out there to win, right? So what’s the deal with them stopping and petting these adorable, cuddly, furry – oh, wait, we get it. Of course you’re going to love seeing these two goofy dogs, happy as can be to be running amok on a big grassy field, in the rain, playing tug of war with a plastic bag. The dogs love the attention, too, jumping right up to get more. It wasn’t that big a deal either, for the two teams. This was an exhibition match between the Turkish team, Galatasaray S.K., and the German team, VfR Aalen. No stakes, no problem, right? Well, the doggies got carted off the field in a hurry, at any rate and the match went back to normal, with a slow, careful match, due to the weather. If anyone’s keeping track, Aalen won, with one point to Galatasaray’s zero. This of course is not the only time an animal has interrupted a sporting match, or even the only time a dog has interrupted a soccer match, but it’s definitely one of the absolute cutest. Golden retrievers just love activity like that and the smile on their faces and the body language as they cavort around the pitch lets you know just how happy they are. A Pizza Party Gone Awry

Remember when you were a kid and the smallest things could send you into a veritable fit of excitement? Of all the things that excite kids the most, I can say from personal experience that the promise of a pizza party ranks somewhere in the top 3. Entire science competitions, intramural sports tournaments and school district spelling bees have been won and lost over a pizza party reward. That’s why when this video from Clickhole starts out, it’s so easy to relate to the instant excitement these kids feel at the prospect of a cheesy, crusty feast in the upcoming future. What makes it truly hilarious though is that the two adults get the kids all revved up and then they just leave. It’s unknown whether or not the kids ever actually got the pizza that they were promised, but I hope for their sake they did.
