No This Plane Is Not Dropping A Bomb. I Bet You Can’t Guess What It’s Actually Doing.

, , ,

Wildlife officials in many states this summer are raising fish in hatcheries as a way to keep lakes and rivers stocked during tourist angling season. Once they’ve reached a certain level of maturity officials introduce the fish into the wild. So what’s the best way to get those hand raised fish out there to all the rivers and lakes? Well by plane of course. What you’re seeing is a fish airdrop that happens a few times a years in Utah and other states. The drops can include anywhere from a few hundred fish to a few thousand. Check out the full video of the fish “bomb” below. So cool! Alright if anyone asks tell them I’ve gone fishing. 7 Dead, 5 Still Missing in NYC Explosion

Rescue workers remove an injured person on a stretcher following a building explosion and collapse in East Harlem, Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in New York.Image: Mark Lennihan/Associated Press Seven people are dead in East Harlem this morning as recovery efforts continue through the rubble of the two buildings that collapsed on Wednesday. The body of the seventh victim was found at 7:12 a.m., according to the FDNY. Five people are still missing. The major explosion that shook uptown New York City around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday was the result of a gas leak. Residents of 1646 Park Ave., one of the two five-story apartment buildings that crumbled, say they called 311 last month when nauseating gas smells permeated the building. “The first time was unbearable,” Ruben Borrero, who lives in the building, told Mashable at the scene on Wednesday. “You walked into the building, and you had to walk straight back out. It was that bad.” City officials, however, say the first tip they received of the gas leak was call to Con Edison that came in around 15 minutes before the explosion. The map above shows the location of the two buildings the collapsed in East Harlem on March 12. Among the victims are two women who lived in the buildings and worked for a church blocks away. Another, 45-year-old Griselde Camacho, was a sergeant for Hunter College’s public safety office. Building resident Rosaura Hernandez-Barrios, 22, also died. Minutes after the buildings tumbled, thick smoke and a sulphuric smell crept through the neighborhood. Firefighters struggled throughout the day to extinguish the blaze and start searching for victims. At least 65 people were injured, 27 of those were transported to hospitals. Shattered glass, wood shards and pieces of broken brick covered the sidewalks blocks away from the site. Layers of dust enveloped vehicles parked on the street. Portions of the elevated Metro North train tracks were covered in debris, leading to a temporary shutdown and continued delays on Thursday. The Red Cross set up a temporary shelter at a nearby school. More than 100 people lined up for food and counseling Wednesday afternoon. The shelter remained open throughout the evening for those who didn’t have a place to sleep. “This is going to be an extended operation,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a press conference hours after the blast. “This is a tragedy of the worst kind because there was no indication in time to save people.” Building Collapse in New York City A general view on the corner of 116th and Park Ave in Harlem where the building collapse took place around 9:30 a.m. on March 12. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); As the saying goes,”curiosity killed the cat,” but luckily for this feline, help was on the way. Cats in general can be quite curious creatures. Can you blame them for wanting to explore and discover new things? For this cat, though, curiosity had gotten the better of him. Our furry friend became deprived of oxygen after getting his head stuck in a small glass jar. Fortunately, two men happened to be walking by and quickly discovered the feline in need. They left to retrieve some supplies. In a matter of seconds, they were able to safely free the cat from his glass chamber. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you can’t breathe. Check out the rescue of this claustrophobic cat! Thank goodness these quick-acting men were passing by at just the right time. They’re heroes in my book. Google CEO Larry Page Makes First Speaking Appearance in Months

, ,

Google CEO Larry Page, who rankled investors with his disappearance over the past few months from the company’s public events because of a vague medical condition affecting his voice, re-emerged Tuesday for an interview at Google’s Zeitgeist Americas conference in Arizona. Those who have heard Page speak before will notice his voice is higher and he speaks in more measured tones. (For a comparison, see the video below.) Officially, the company has noted that the CEO lost his voice and has chronically delicate vocal cords. Nevertheless, Page’s appearance should reassure skeptics. It’s unclear, however, if Page will be speaking during the company’s third-quarter earnings call, which is scheduled for Thursday. During his close-to-40-minute talk, Page made a cheeky reference to Apple’s recent trouble with Maps: “We’re excited that other people are starting to notice that we worked hard on [Google Maps] for seven years.” Page also defended the company’s new privacy policy and discussed Google’s self-driving cars and Google Glass. “It’s an amazing device,” Page said. “Every time I use it, I feel like I’m living in the future.” Read more: http://mashable.com/2012/10/17/google-larry-page-public-appearance/
