Nobel Peace Prize Winner Stumps Steven Colbert With Card Trick

You might know Malala Yousafzai for her Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights work in Pakistan or for being the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Those are incredible achievements, but Yousafzai’s skills don’t just extend to making the world a better place. She also does a great card trick, as we learned during her recent appearance on The Late Show With Steven Colbert.  What starts off as a trick that isn’t working soon reveals itself to be part of her deception. From this moment all we demand that all public Nobel Peace Prize winners learn how to do card tricks. They’ve already made the world a better place, now follow Yousafzai’s lead and make it a more whimsical one.  Read more: http://www.wimp.com/malala-yousafzai-and-stephen-colbert-card-trick/

German Shepherd Wants A Refill

The German Shepherd has long been a popular breed. These pups are confident, courageous and smart, excelling at pretty much anything they’re asked to do. Need a pup to shovel your snow? Choose a German Shepherd. Want to train your pup as a housekeeper? The German Shepherd’s your dog. Looking for a dog to serenade you? This German Shepherd can even do that. While this breed is intelligent by nature, they don’t always know what’s best for them. Begging for more food after scarfing down the first helping, for instance, isn’t the best nutrition plan. Just like with humans, a balanced diet is critical for a healthy pet. The average adult German Shepherd should be fed about two cups of dry dog food two times a day, although it varies by weight. Deaf Girl Gets Cochlear Implant So She Can Hear Her Boyfriend Propose

I can’t get enough of listening to people tell their proposal stories. Each story is unique and usually compliments the character traits of the people involved. My dad proposed to my mom on the beach as the sun was setting, and my best friend recently proposed to his new wife at Disney World. Both proposals are totally different and equally as adorable. But, there may have just been a proposal story so over-the-top-incredible that we all might as well give up.  Andrea Diaz had been deaf her whole life, but thanks to the amazing technology of cochlear implants, she was finally able to hear for the first time. Her doctor gathered her in a room with her boyfriend, Kevin, as they prepared to turn the device on for the first time. Once the implant was turned on, Andrea was overwhelmed by the new sensation, but nothing could prepare her for what would happen next. Just seconds after hearing her first-ever words, Kevin got down on one knee and asked Andrea to marry him.  “I love you so much and you’re my best friend baby,” Kevin said. “I wanted to make one of the first things that you hear me asking you to marry me.” Unsurprisingly, many tears were shed in the doctor’s office and from most everyone who watches this video. Good luck trying to top that proposal.   H/T: EyeEagleNews01 Read more: http://www.wimp.com/deaf-girl-gets-cochlear-implant-and-boyfriend-proposes/

A Little Girl Takes Her First Aerobatic Flight And Her Reaction Is Wonderful

It might seem like something that could traumatize a child for life against flying. Soaring into the air in a tiny private plane can be a pretty startling experience, even for an adult who is used to taking off in commercial airliners. But it turns out that with the right introduction, childhood is the best time to introduce your family to the passion of flying. Even aerobatics is, as this video from Canadian pilot Raphael Langumier shows, an immensely enjoyable experience for a youngster. The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has the following recommendations for flying with children: Start early. Start with a short flight. Observe safety precautions to the letter. (Like you see with little Lea in the video, she’s got hearing protection and she’s properly buckled into a safety harness.) Talk to your kids before you ever take off. Show them how planes fly, take them to the airport or an airshow. While this is Lea’s first aerobatic flight, this is likely not her first time in the air and definitely not her first experience with a plane. Her father is a test pilot and certified aerobatics instructor with over 8,000 hours of flight experience. That’s nearly a full year spent up in the air. But he’s not the only one in the family who spends a lot of time off the ground. Lea’s mother is a flight attendant. Clearly this little girl was born with wings. The Spirit Of Sportsmanship

Even if you are not a fan of college basketball or sports in general, it would have been difficult not to notice all of the hoopla surrounding the NCAA’s March Madness. This past weekend saw the onset of the Final Four games that included the following teams: Wisconsin Badgers, University of Kentucky Wildcats, Michigan State University Spartans, and Duke University Blue Devils. In a new twist, the NCAA had a quartet of student athletes (one from each of the schools represented in the 2015 Final Four) sing the National Anthem before Saturday’s game between Duke and Michigan State, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The song was executed perfectly by Wisconsin’s basketball player “Velvet” Vito Brown, Duke’s football player Deion Williams, Michigan’s soccer player Michelle Dear and Kentucky’s soccer player Kennedy Collier. A Coach’s Patriotic Lesson On The Basketball Court

“The Star-Spangled Banner” is the national anthem of the United States of America. Its lyrics are taken from the poem, “Defence of Fort McHenry,” originally penned by Francis Scott Key in 1814. Key, a 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet, wrote it after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy, firing from the Baltimore Harbor. During the fierce battle (one of many during the War of 1812), Key spotted a large American flag (the Star-Spangled Banner) flying triumphantly over the fort, inspiring him to write those immortal words. The actual tune of the song comes from the British song, “To Anacreon in Heaven,” written by John Stafford Smith in 1780. The tune was originally written for a men’s social club, and numerous versions with alternate lyrics were already quite popular in the United States. The combination of Key’s lyrics and Stafford’s tune proved to be a powerful one – if Billboard had existed back then, it would have been a chart-topper. The song remained quite popular for many years, but didn’t become the official national anthem of the United States until President Herbert Hoover signed the congressional resolution declaring it as such on March 3, 1931. Over the years, the song has come to mean so much to so many, especially the brave men and women in the armed services. So, when Virginia Tech basketball coach Buzz Williams noticed that some of his players weren’t giving it the respect it was due, he brought in some special guests to illustrate how important it is to respect the anthem. This is a lesson these young men won’t soon forget. H/T: Virginia Tech Athletics Read more: http://www.wimp.com/coach-patriotic-lesson-on-basketball-court-leaves-everyone-in-tears/

Family Of 12 Performs Irish Stepdance

It would be one thing to simply show you a talented dance troupe. It would be more impressive to tell you that the members were all siblings. The craziest thing of all, though, is the fact that this dancing family doesn’t stop with fancy footwork. While each of them has learned a variety of dancing styles, every last one of them is also a proficient multi-instrumentalist and a singer to boot. They also enjoy a wide variety of other creative pastimes like painting, but there’s no brushes or canvases in this video. Instead, you get a fun performance that shows of this family’s diverse array of musical chops. No question, whatever their parents are making them for breakfast, it seems to be working. These kids (well, most of them are still kids!) are full of energy and life as they put a modern, eclectic spin on traditional Celtic dancing. What’s more, they’re not just out there, mindlessly striving for precision and glory. They’re in it to have fun and entertain others. That’s obvious from their smiling faces and the noticeable bounce in their steps. These siblings have been featured on TLC, America’s Got Talent, and an endless stream of talk shows and live appearances. It’s pretty wild to think of two siblings getting along well enough to go on performing tours, let alone a dozen of them, but this family somehow manages to keep that presumable chaos under control, as far as we can tell. We certainly hope to see more youngsters dedicating themselves to great pursuits like this as well, even if they don’t form a family band. Be sure to SHARE this great performance with your family and friends! H/T: AllDanceMedia Read more: http://www.wimp.com/family-of-12-performs-irish-stepdance/

Adorable Hungry Herd Of Cats Demands Tribute

When you see signs in a state park saying “don’t feed the animals” they’re not trying to be mean. They’re trying to avoid teaching wild animals to depend humans for their dinner. When this rule of nature is broken all heck can break loose as one man discovered when he fed a stray cat on his back porch. One stray cat became two, two became three, and so forth until now they are legion. His chaos is our gain. Enjoy this adorable life lesson, be careful, or you might just have your own herd of cats.  Read more: http://www.wimp.com/man-learns-dont-feed-the-cats/

A Veterinarian’s Journey

Thailand seems to be developing a monopoly on powerful short films that tell true-to-life stories of people, their lives, hopes, dreams and everything in between. If you’ve seen some of the other ones, you know what we’re talking about. This particular clip from Krungthai Bank cranks the feels up to 11 with a powerful story of one woman and how she came to her chosen profession. Initially terrified of her neighbor’s dog, as time goes on she learns a little more about this particular pooch and her view changes. And really that’s what life is about, isn’t it? There are really only two major emotions, fear and love. Everything else just kind of branches out from there. And what’s the difference between fear and love? Understanding. Understanding led this one woman to become a veterinarian. The journey there was rough, to say the least, but we’re glad she made it. And certainly, all the animals she will help in her life are glad as well, even if they don’t even know it yet. Veterinarians as a whole are an odd sort of professional. While they immediately command respect for their selfless devotion to the care of creatures far less capable of caring for themselves than humans, they often don’t carry the same cachet as a human-focused physician or surgeon. In many ways, what they do is harder. The patients are often far less willing. The diseases sometimes more bizarre. But they go to work every day and save the lives of countless animals that are so important to so many of us. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/woman-dog-veterinarian-thai-commercial/

Son Waits 8 Years For Revenge On Dad For Fake Xbox Present

The best kind of prank takes a lot of patience to pull off, eight years of patience to be exact. On Mason’s 16th birthday he opened a present that he believed was an Xbox. Turns out it was just an empty box filled with rocks. Don’t feel too bad for him, though, he still got a car. Flash forward eight years and now it’s the son’s turn to get back. Right before Christmas day, Mason emptied out his father’s Xbox and replaced it with rocks just as his Dad did, with a special twist. This is one family that never forgets.
