Tattooing is an ancient tradition, but it’s become especially popular over the last 20 years or so. While they were once shunned by most of modern society as being crass or uncouth, they’ve gained a much more widespread acceptance worldwide. Today, people have tattoos on just about every conceivable part of their body. Tattoos often carry a deeply personal significance to the individual wearing them. One of the latest trends in tattooing is getting a little red string around your pinky finger. According to Chinese legend, every person is born with an invisible red string around their finger that connects them to their one true love (not sure how it’s red and invisible simultaneously but whatevs). This string binds you to that special someone regardless of time, distance or circumstances. The magical string might stretch or tangle, but it is an unbreakable bond. A lot of people are getting inspired by this legend and getting matching red string tattoos with their significant other, while others just get it with close friends or family to symbolize an unbreakable, non-romantic bond. Life is very hard for an abandoned dog. It’s even more challenging when a dog is pregnant or already has a litter of pups. This is exactly the situation that Java, a pregnant boxer, found herself in when she was abandoned on the streets by her owners. When Karen from LostPetFoundPet.org saw Java roaming the streets, starving and pregnant, she brought her to Nob Hill Animal Clinic where veterinarians assessed her condition. To everyone’s surprise, Java gave birth to her first baby the next morning. The entire birth was captured in the video below, and judging by the way she takes care of her newborn pups, Java is clearly a good mom. You can see her giving kisses and licking them continuously towards the end of the clip. It’s remarkable to think that just days before, she was on the streets fending for herself, but thanks to efforts of all the rescuers involved, Java now has a new lease on life. LostPetFoundPet.org even managed to raise $1500 for her, which paid for her care and eventually helped her secure a spot at the Florida Boxer Rescue. Java’s story is a perfect example of what happens when good people get together to help animals in need. For every pet that gets rescued, the chances of other abandoned pets getting rescued increases significantly. This is why it’s vital to report any stray dogs to local authorities whenever you come across one. It could save their life. Don’t forget to SHARE this amazing story with your friends and family! As someone who lives in a big city, I can completely understand why people love riding bikes. You can save money and be active at the same time. It’s also much more pleasant than sitting still in bumper to bumper traffic. As much as I get why cycling can be such a productive and fruitful lifestyle, I just am not ready to give up the convenience of my car. If only there was some alternative that could offer the best of both worlds. Well, thanks to Swedish inventor Mikael Kjellman, there now is a solution. Mikael loves riding bikes, but sometimes the harsh Swedish weather makes it impossible. So, he set out to design something that would work in any climate condition. After some trial and error, Mikael came up with “PodRide,” a four-wheeled bicycle with a covered body to keep the driver warm and safe from the elements. What makes this little vehicle so unique, however, is that the body makes it look like a small, one-person car traveling on the road. It’s so convincing that, at first glance, you probably wouldn’t even be able to tell that it was a bike. Mikael is now pushing hard for his product to be mass produced. He says of PodRide, “They are practical, good for your health, cheap to run, good for the environment and fun to drive.” He recently opened up a crowdfunding campaign in an attempt to raise $30,000 so the vehicle to be produced. The video below shows just how it operates, and if you like what you see, you can donate to the cause here and help make it a reality. Remember to SHARE this awesome idea with your friends and family. H/T: Mikael Kjellman Read more: http://www.wimp.com/the-amazing-bike-car-invention/
For most of human history, we’ve been fascinated with the idea of mind readers, psychics, oracles, and other “gifted” individuals who seemingly have an ability to know the future or read the thoughts of other people. It’s not hard to understand this fascination, who wouldn’t want to know the future, right? As for mind reading, we are all born into our own unique consciousness, and we live and die only ever knowing our own thoughts. The temptation to look inside the mind of another person is naturally pretty strong. We associate those who can read minds with having some sort of supernatural ability, and many clever “magicians” have made fortunes out of their ability to convince people that their powers are real. In most cases, however, the reader simply relies on an ability to be intentionally vague so that you could interpret your own meaning in whatever they say. Readers also use cold reading techniques to quickly discern a few details about the client, and will often adjust what they say during a reading to match your reactions. This video claims to be able to read minds, and gives viewers a simple set of instructions to follow. At the end, there’s a good chance that most people got the number 3 and the country of Denmark (I got 3, but my country was the Dominican Republic). It might seem somewhat “magical” at first, but really this trick relies on two things: a natural tendency of most people to think of Denmark when asked to name a country starting with D, and a series of mathematical operations that will usually have the same end result despite what number you start with. We love reading stories of young people who do amazing things. So many children have extraordinary talent, and it is our honor to share their work with you. One of my personal favorites is this young man, who programmed every aspect of his dorm room to be completely automatic. The point is, you’re never too young to do something remarkable. That’s a lesson that one three-year-old prodigy knows all too well. Emma is a toddler, and has only been doing gymnastics for six months, but she showed such a natural ability that word started getting out about how talented she was. Eventually, she was discovered by Ellen DeGeneres who brought the little tyke on her show for a demonstration. But what happened next shocked Ellen and everyone else who was watching. The three-year-old started off on a high bar, where she pulled herself up with a series of very impressive maneuvers. After that, she climbed her way down on a mat, showing off her flexibility with some stretches and tumbling. Emma then did a very impressive handstand that transitioned into a full split. Already, the audience was impressed, but this tiny gymnast was just beginning. She got off the mat and hopped on a trampoline where she performed a few backflips that left Ellen and her audience with a huge smile on their faces. Ellen was so impressed that she rewarded Emma with an enormous supply of candy. As any kid could tell you, no trophy could ever be better. Enjoy the video and remember to SHARE it with your friends on Facebook. H/T: The Ellen Show Read more: http://www.wimp.com/3-year-old-gymnast/
If you are a cable television junkie, then you are definitely familiar with “The Property Brothers.” For those who don’t know, it’s a reality show on HGTV where a pair of twin brothers help home owners fix up and renovate their property. It’s been a very successful series for the past four years and incredibly helpful to anyone who is trying to up the value of their home for sale. In the show, you see the two hosts travel across the continent, from Toronto to Atlanta and beyond, and learn secrets of the trade, but you never really know much about their lives. It turns out, there is a lot more to the brothers than meets the eye. Drew and Jonathan Scott are real estate experts who have devoted their lives to the profession, but did you know they also have a budding music career? Together, they have formed the country music duo “The Scott Brothers” and have already begun to wow listeners. Their warm smiles and friendly demeanor shine through in the brother’s first hit song, “Hold On.” It’s a song that focuses on the love of family and the support they have received from one another. With a brand new hit song and a successful television show, these brothers just might be taking over the world. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/hgtvs-the-scott-brothers-sing-hold-on/
As someone who grew up in the city, in general, I foster a little jealousy for those folks who grew up on the farm. I’m sure it’s the same way in the reverse. The grass is always greener, as they say. That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to get jealous about in this video, though! As Annie walks into the barn, there are all the familiar trappings of farm life. But wait, what’s that? A basket? Presents? Something exciting is about to happen. Annie meets with her family and there’s a little doubt sowed, but she knows that something isn’t adding up. Something more is just around the corner. Is there anything greater than seeing a child receive the best gift ever? Maybe, but not while you’re watching it happen. That uplifting, warm, smiley feeling you get as Annie discovers the truth about this venture into her family’s barn and what’s waiting for her inside. When she meets Pepper Snowflake Clipper (did this horse just get every horse name ever combined?) it’s just heart-meltingly amazing. “Talking turkey” is a popular idiom, but this kid is taking it to a whole other level. While he and his mom are outside one day, they happen to see some wild turkeys down the road. The little boy decides to try to communicate with the gobbling turkeys, and surprisingly, they seem to respond! There’s a whole “conversation” between the two in this clip, and it really, really makes me wish I had a turkey translator so I could know what was said. The phrase “talking turkey” or “to talk turkey” is a uniquely American expression that generally means to get down to business and talk about whatever relevant matters need discussion. During a negotiation, for instance, you may hear one party tell the other, “Don’t come back until you’re ready to talk turkey!” So where did this odd phrase come from? There are several competing stories, but expert Michael Quinion at World Wide Words seems to think that the most likely origin was during the days of the early European settlers. Many of the contacts between settlers and Native Americans revolved around the purchase and sale of wild turkeys, to an extent that when Natives saw a European settler approaching, they would ask, “You come to talk turkey?” Another popular story is that a colonist and a Native went hunting together and bagged 4 turkeys and 4 crows. While splitting up the catch, the colonist gave himself all the turkeys and proposed the Native take all the crows. Understandably, the Native protested and remarked “you talk all turkey for you, only talk crow for Indian.” Remember to SHARE this hilarious clip with your friends! Pastor Ronnie Stewart and his wife Krystal run the Refuge Church in Pasco County, Florida. The couple had three children of their own and were living the life they always imagined they would be. But the funny thing about life is, it never really goes the way you plan. Ronnie and Krystal discovered that firsthand when they found themselves face to face with two children in need. The two children turned out to be brothers, and they were discovered outside of Ronnie’s church. The pastor recognized the boys as children that stopped by his homeless ministry. So, he decided to bring the boys back to his home and welcomed them as one of his own while giving them a warm bath and a good meal. When Krystal was cleaning the children, she noticed just how bad of shape they were in. The boys were covered in bug bites and were losing skin on their feet. But the story doesn’t end there. At church the next Sunday, the parents of the brothers found Pastor Ronnie and his wife and asked if they could adopt their children full-time. Needless to say, Ronnie and Krystal were stunned, but their faith and sense of duty made them realize the choice they had to make. As Krystal says, “We are absolutely positive that God has placed them in our lives for a purpose and to love them as our own.” The new family of five is looking forward to all of the joys their life together will bring. For years I’ve believed there’s nothing worse than getting the hiccups but now I know I was wrong. The only thing worse than getting the hiccups is getting them right before you have to sing your country’s national anthem in front of thousands of people at a baseball game. Thankfully this little fella rose to the task, rocking the Australian national anthem in the face of his body trying to make him sound silly. For his effort, he gets a massive round of applause and some high fives from the players. Remember, the hiccups can only hold you back if you let them.
