Nervous 12-Year-Old Girl Rocks It On “Britain’s Got Talent”

Stage fright is something we’ve all experienced at some point in our lives. From school plays to important work presentations, there’s no shortage of scenarios in life that make us nervous. You can rehearse in your bedroom a thousand times, but as soon as you set foot in front of a crowd, the words that used to come so naturally can’t seem to find their way out of your mouth. Your hands shake, your voice cracks, and in those moments you’d rather be anywhere but there. Some people, however, are able to conquer that fear and own the stage like they’ve lived there forever. This is what separates the truly great performers from people with talent. Anyone can sing a song in their bedroom, but it takes a rockstar to deliver that same stellar performance in front of a theater full of people. Beau Dermott may not be a rockstar yet, but, after a recent performance on Britain’s Got Talent, she’s well on her way. This young girl is only 12 years old, but she has a voice that the audience, as well as the judges, found undeniably brilliant. Before her performance, Dermott said that she was feeling nervous, but you’d never guess that based on how calm and confident she is onstage. As if receiving a standing ovation wasn’t reward enough, judge Amanda Holden decided to press her “Golden Buzzer,” which gives Dermott a guaranteed spot in the semi-finals. Good luck, Beau – we hope you defy gravity all the way to the top! Be sure to SHARE this stunning performance with your friends! Carbonating Fruit With Dry Ice

With Halloween less than two weeks away, you’ll probably encounter some dry ice if you haven’t already. Dry ice, the solid form of carbon dioxide, is commonly used as a Halloween decoration because it produces a thick fog when placed in water. This process, referred to as sublimation, is one of a variety of uses for dry ice which include preserving or flash freezing food, making ice cream and carbonating beverages.  You might think we’ve discovered every use for dry ice, but the folks over at Chef Steps have found a new function that might just change the way we experience fruit. Chris Young and Grant Crilly, two self-proclaimed nerds, teach us how we can carbonate our favorite fruit and get the fizzy sensation of soda from natural foods. Remember to handle dry ice with care before embarking on your own fizzy fruit adventure. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/dry-ice-carbonated-fruit/

“Granny Pods” Just Might Replace Nursing Homes In The Future

Modern medicine is a beautiful thing. With all the advancements in healthcare, people can survive illnesses and injuries in a way that would have been unimaginable even just a century ago. That means not only a better quality of life for human beings, but a longer average lifespan as well. While this is clearly a triumph, it’s also led to the rise in the likelihood of spending a sometimes significant amount of time in a nursing home, which often comes with a similarly significant financial burden. Aside from a financial burden, elderly people report higher-than-average levels of loneliness and isolation, which can wreak havoc both mentally and physically. Enter MEDCottage, a company that aims to realize a vision of family-managed healthcare. The MEDCottage, like the one in this video, “is a mobile, modular medical home designed to be temporarily placed on a caregiver’s property for rehabilitation and extended care. Simply stated, it’s a state-of-the-art hospital room with remote monitoring” which enables elderly or sick relatives to stay with family instead of being stuck in an impersonal senior or care facility. There are three different models to chose from, ranging in size from around 300-600 square feet. They are connected directly to the existing utilities of the main home on the property and include everything needed for an assisted living experience.  These cottages do come with a cost, of course. The Classic, the model seen in this video, clocks in at 288 square feet and runs $53,750, per MEDCottage’s product listing. The basic model, with an extra ten square feet, is more of a studio setup (without a separate bedroom) and costs $39,625. For $61,125, you can upgrade to the Grand and get over double the square footage and have more space for caregivers. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/granny-pods-nursing-homes-family-elder-care/

Gym Coach Is Hilariously Passionate About His Job

Gymnastics isn’t exactly the most popular sport. For most of us, it only comes around every four years, when we tune in to watch the summer Olympics. However, for professional gymnasts, it’s an all-consuming lifestyle. When they wake up, what they eat and how much time they spend practicing is all determined by their training regimen. There is little time or energy left for socializing, or even just relaxing on the couch. It’s an intense schedule, but we can’t forget – behind every successful gymnast is a great coach. Coaches, like the gymnasts they train, also lead a hectic lifestyle. Their workday is not 9 to 5, but consists of long hours of training and traveling to events, all while keeping an upbeat and positive attitude. It takes drive and passion, two things the coach in this video has in spades. Clearly, he’s someone who truly loves their job.   Read more: http://www.wimp.com/gym-coach-hilarious-passionate-job/

The 100-Drone Light Show

You might think everything that is possible to do with a drone has already been done. Once you’ve seen a drone get attacked by rattlesnakes, there’s pretty much nowhere else to go, right? Well all those drone videos might have been outdone by what was just pulled off by the people at Intel. It was the culmination of years of work and innovation that resulted in a fabulous few minutes. In an attempt to break a Guinness world record, they launched 100 drones into the night sky. Each drone was attached with lights that, when put together, formed an amazing display of color and movement. It was all set to the tune of Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5” played by a live orchestra. That is how you break a world record in style. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/the-100-drone-light-show/

This is what shell shock looks like in real life

Post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, is one of the darker aspects of war that we don’t often like to discuss.
