One of the greatest, most important responsibilities any man can ever take on is fatherhood. Being a dad isn’t easy, and there’s no set way to do it. Some people choose to be stern disciplinarians who give tough love while others are big ol’ softies. Some choose to go for the role of authority, while others play the part of a big, lovable goofball. It’s all relative to what you’re like personally (I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be a goofball dad like Phil Dunphy on Modern Family), but there’s one thing that all great dads have in common: you love your kids unconditionally and do anything and everything in your power to keep them smiling. For some folks, fatherhood comes with an even bigger challenge, in the form of disability. Raising a child with special needs can be daunting and a lot of people are terrified of potentially having a baby with a birth defect because they’re not sure they have the inner strength and dedication to overcome the extra hurdles in their way. Thankfully, there are plenty of parents who embrace the challenge head-on and find the experience extremely rewarding. This guy is definitely one of those dads. His son appears to suffer from cerebral palsy, a condition caused by abnormal brain development that results in severely limited motor functionality. On a rainy day, he takes him out to experience the water. Even though the boy is fairly large, the dad carries him around as if he were still a toddler. It’s unclear whether or not the father is in such great shape as a result of carrying his son so much, or for some other reason. Either way, his love for his son is commendable. It’s been nearly a week since St. Patrick’s Day, but Irish stepdance is still on our minds. Stepdance is the subject of a lot of confusion in the dance world. First, people often confuse Irish stepdance with Riverdance. While related, the two are definitely different. Irish stepdance is a form of dance, while Riverdance is a show that incorporates different styles of music and Irish dance into a single captivating spectacle. The second confusion that a lot of Irish stepdancers face involves tap dancing. To someone who doesn’t watch a lot of dance, the two styles might look pretty similar. Believe it or not, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Irish stepdancing probably came first, considering traveling dance masters were known to roam Ireland as early as the 1700s. Tap dancing, on the other hand, surfaced sometime in the mid-1800s, with many believing it originated in minstrel shows. Tap dance borrows elements of style from all kinds of histories and cultures, including everything from African tribal dances to English clog dances. The following video perfectly demonstrates the many differences, and similarities, between these two forms of dance. As you can see, tap dancers are much more expressive with their arms and hands, waving them in flourishes that match the music, whereas stepdancers keep their upper bodies rigid throughout the entire performance. When a group of Irish stepdancers and a tap dancing duo meet face to face, though … there’s no telling what could happen. While there might be some playful rivalry between the two different types of dance, the dancers in this video clearly have a lot of respect for each other. H/T: L.A. Do you love going out for a fancy steak dinner? To me, there’s no better way to celebrate a major accomplishment than taking your loved ones out to a nice restaurant and cutting into a juicy tenderloin. Or, even better, you can learn how to make one yourself and invite people over for a delicious dinner party. You can even try to serve this potato volcano as a side dish if you really want to impress your guests. Unfortunately, there are a lot of problems with the meat industry. You probably are aware of the mistreatment of cattle that occurs on a mass scale. It’s a heartbreaking reality and one that we all have to come to terms with in our own way. But, you may not be aware of another problem explained here by Greg from Ballistic BBQ. He calls it “the meat glue secret,” and once you understand what it is, you’ll never look at steaks from restaurants the same way. The “meat glue secret” is that cheap and lower quality meats are often pasted together with a powdery substance to pass as high-quality cuts of meat. It happens in restaurants and dining halls all over the country and the vast majority of people aren’t even aware of it. So, next time you order a steak, you might want to give it a closer inspection. Be sure to SHARE this important message with your friends and family. Being diagnosed with a severe illness or undergoing a painful procedure can be bad enough, but it’s even worse when you’ve got a faithful pet waiting at home for you. There isn’t anything those animals wouldn’t do for you, and the same goes for the reverse. But most of the time, someone suffering from cancer or another deadly disease will find themselves alone in a hospital bed, as far away from their lovable fuzzballs as they can be, at least in spirit. Well, the Juravinski hospital in Hamilton, Ontario is working with a small organization called Zachary’s Paws for Healing, dedicated to bringing these loving and beloved family members right into the hospital to comfort patients when they need it most. The procedures developed by the hospital along with the organization ensure very little risk of the animals bringing in any potential contagions, and you can tell by looking that these animals need these visits as much as the patients do.
