According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, there are roughly 460,000 cases of missing children reported every year. Just to be clear, that number is a little scarier than it looks – if a single child runs away multiple times in one year, for example, each incident is logged as a separate entry. Still, an uncomfortable portion of that number includes kids who went missing for far more sinister reasons, some of whom may never be found again. In order to keep your kids safe, it’s important to have a conversation with them about the potential dangers that they need to watch out for. No need for anything crazy (you don’t want to completely terrify them), just have an honest conversation with them. For instance, let them know that you would never, ever send a stranger to get them. The video below shows several important safety tips that you should go over with your kids. The creators of this video, Pretty Loaded, are a personal safety training company founded by Beth Warford, a former nurse who decided to get into personal safety after her own close encounter with a stalker. She realized that most attacks are over in seconds, while help is usually several minutes away. After seeing that most other defense companies weren’t focused on situational awareness training, she made that the focus of Pretty Loaded, helping clients learn how to quickly recognize the signs of a potentially dangerous situation early enough to avoid getting into it. “Hallelujah” just might be one of the most beautiful songs ever written; it’s certainly one of the most frequently covered. Whether it’s performed by classical musicians, two friends on pianos or Leonard Cohen himself, it’s always unfailingly gorgeous. But despite the sheer number of versions, when the PS22 Chorus belt it out, it’s absolutely unforgettable. The choir is made up of students from PS22, an elementary school in Staten Island. Each year, about 65 kids make the cut for the now-famous choir and gain the chance to perform for millions. The group has teamed up with famous musicians, such as Katy Perry and Stevie Nicks, and took the stage at the 83rd Academy Awards. On YouTube, their videos have garnered over 65 million views. After the attacks in Paris on November 13 and the senseless violence that takes place daily all over the world, many were left wondering how such things can happen and why so much evil exists in the world. Among those asking these questions was a young boy in Paris who visited the memorial site with his father. The boy was understandably scared and shaken by the attacks, but his father explained the event through a powerful metaphor. “They have guns but we have flowers,” the father says. While flowers don’t literally fight evil, the love and compassion those flowers represent show the most powerful weapon humans have. As the great Mr. Rogers once said, “Whenever there is a tragedy, always look to the helpers. There will always be helpers.” The young child learned a lesson that will stay with him forever, the human spirit is always stronger than evil. We’ve all heard the common misconceptions about being a stay-at-home mom. They get to spend all day doing arts and crafts, eating snacks, and generally living the good life. And if the house is still a mess at the end of the day, we all know what comes next: “So, what did you do all day?” But the truth (as any stay-at-home mom knows) is that caring for tiny humans who haven’t quite learned to calmly and rationally communicate their needs all day is hard work! Yes, some days there’s time to remove juice stains from the carpet, but other days it’s all you can do to keep the kids happy and healthy … or, at a minimum, alive. On those days, getting dressed falls pretty low on the priority list. After all, kids are messy and chances are you’ll end up with at least one possibly unidentifiable substance on your shirt. So, many moms rely on sweats (or yoga pants, if you’re feeling fancy!) for daily wear. The ladies behind the wildly popular YouTube Channel WhatsUpMoms are all too familiar with this. That’s why they’ve come to rescue and found ways to make sweatpants at least a tad more presentable. Want a few other tricks up your sleeve to make yourself look a little more put together in under 20 minutes? As far as makeup goes, find a tinted moisturizer you love to replace your old, time-consuming makeup routine. A little mascara and some lip gloss round out the perfect quick beauty routine. As for clothes, yes, comfort is often key, but what about accessories? A nice bag (even one big enough to haul all the things kids seem to need) and statement jewelry can make all the difference in the world. Be sure to SHARE these hilarious tips with your friends and family! H/T: WhatsUpMoms Read more: http://www.wimp.com/you-can-look-good-in-just-your-sweats/
