The poet John Donne once wrote, “No man is an island.” Oh, yeah? Try telling that to Catherine King and Wayne Adams, the couple who lives on a homemade island off the coast of Vancouver. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/meet-the-couple-who-lives-on-a-homemade-island/
Jimelle Levon spent most of his childhood in a homeless shelter with his mother. At an early age, he understood the importance of hard work and determination. Levon is a young entrepreneur willing to do anything to get him and his mother out of their situation. “Me and my mother lived in a shelter before when I was in fifth grade,” Jimelle told WCMH. “From there on, once I hit sixth grade, I was always a hard worker, either shoveling the snow or anything to gain money because I didn’t want to be in the predicament anymore.” The 18-year-old self-taught designer out of Columbus, Ohio designs and makes prom dresses by hand. The dress he made for his prom date was inspired by Vanessa Bell Calloway’s gold sequined dress that was featured in the 1988 movie Coming to America. According to Yahoo Style, Levon cut each gold leaf by hand and directly stitched it onto the sheer fabric that was covering his date. You can visit his Instagram, jimellelevon, to see all of his stunning creations. He even has a website, where you can order your own dress. Last Thursday, millions of people celebrated Thanksgiving and reconnected with family near and far. For those of us with family members who live close by, it’s easy to take these holidays for granted. We’ve fallen into a rhythm year after year where we see the same people, eat the same food and crack the same old jokes. Some families, however, have members whose location prevents them from joining everyone else. This, unfortunately, was nurse Tammy Smith’s reality for the past two years. Her son Brandon has been away serving in the military, leaving an empty seat at all family gatherings. Tammy and her husband had no idea that their Thanksgiving was about to change in a big way when one young man with a familiar name showed up in the ER. When it comes to music, a great solo performance can be truly breathtaking, but everybody knows duets are where it’s really at. Here at Wimp, we especially love duets between family members. Take for example these twin sisters who always wow us. There’s something about growing up together that makes sibling duets extra special … or extra annoying. This duet is a family affair as well, but it doesn’t feature siblings. Instead, it’s a father and his daughter singing a cover of “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk The Moon. The father is Matt Silverman, a talented musician and vocalist who runs the (appropriately named) YouTube channel FREE DAD VIDEOS. The daughter is Amelia, a not-as-talented musician and vocalist whose passion for the song makes this cover something special. I’d keep an eye out for these two if I were you. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear one of Amelia’s kazoo songs on the radio sometime soon. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/father-daughter-shut-up-and-dance-cover/
Identical twins have always been known for sharing a bond that goes well beyond that of traditional siblings. Having the same genetics and childhood experiences is one thing, but many twins express that they see their sibling as an extension of themselves. Genetics alone doesn’t go nearly far enough to explain this phenomenon. “I’d say that the biggest obstacle for non-twin siblings in achieving this bond is the age difference. The reason my twin and I work so well is the inherent lack of superiority, whether in age or in experience. Not only do we experience the same things, we experience them in similar ways,” said Woody Chung – a twin – in a post on Quora. For Stephen Ratpojanakul, his twin brother Michael has always been one of the most important people in his life. It was through Michael’s wife that Stephen met his wife, Carroll. In a strange twist of fate, it turns out that Carroll is the twin of Caryn, Michael’s wife. Two identical twin siblings married to another set of identical twin siblings – have you ever heard of something like that happening? Last week, Michael and his wife went over to their twins’ apartment to babysit Stephen and Carroll’s son, Reed. Reed has obviously met his uncle before, but it’s hard to blame him for getting confused when they are next to each other. Reed recently learned the word “dada,” but when it comes to his dad and uncle, he isn’t confident in whom he should be calling what. Queen is regarded by many to be one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Formed in London, England in 1970, the band quickly rose to fame with their unique take on rock music. Coupled with the unconventional lyrical style of the group’s lead singer, Freddie Mercury, they released numerous hits throughout the ’70s and ’80s that remain instantly recognizable till this day. One of the group’s most famous songs is the melodic rock anthem, Bohemian Rhapsody. The classic tune is still heard on the radio and used in promotions untill this day. Even kids, like the one featured in this video, who weren’t born when Freddie was alive, love to rock out to this song. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/baby-headbangs-bohemian-rhapsody-queen/
