Injured Tortoise Receives Worlds First 3-D Printed Shell

There are many ways to help those in need. Some may choose to donate money to a worthy cause, while others may volunteer at a charitable organization. Of course, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Sometimes, a small act of kindness can make a world of difference for someone in need – and that includes animals. We often read about homeless, battered animals being rescued and restored back to health by kindhearted individuals. Those touching stories remind us that even through tragedy, there is hope for a new beginning. For animals in Brazil, hope comes in the form of a group of surgeons and one 3-D designer who call themselves the Animal Avengers. The heroic group consists of four vets, one dental surgeon, and one 3-D designer. From left to right, they are Dr. Matheus Rabello, Dr. Paulo Miamoto, Dr. Roberto Fecchio, Cicero Moraes, Dr. Sergio Camargo, and Dr. Rodrigo Rabello. “We first came together as friends because of our common love of science and our love for animals,” Dr. Fecchio explained. “We soon realized we could do some extraordinary work using cutting-edge technology […] for mutilated animals by giving them customized prostheses.” Caters News Agency The first animal that received their help was Freddy the tortoise. He was severely injured in a wildfire that left him on the brink of death. Caters News Agency The fire had left him badly damaged, and most of his protective shell was gone in the aftermath. Thankfully, the Animal Avengers came along and began to design a new hull for the little guy. Mail Online “Freddy was the first tortoise in the world to receive a fully rebuilt hull and the first creature that we, as a newly formed group of animal rescuers, decided to help,” Moraes said. Inside Edition (deployads = window.deployads || []).push({}); The shell was then fabricated using a 3-D printer and fitted onto Freddy. Inside Edition It was a perfect fit, but they were not finished with the final product. Caters News Agency To make Freddy look as spiffy as he had before the accident, the team painstakingly hand-painted the entire shell. Inside Edition The results were fantastic! Mail Online (deployads = window.deployads || []).push({}); Thanks to this amazing team, Freddy’s future is no longer bleak and uncertain. Inside Edition Now, the happy tortoise has a bright and happy future ahead of him. The São Paulo-based team has helped a number of other animals as well. This included the reconstruction of artificial beaks for a parrot, a goose, and three toucans. On top of that, they also created the world’s first titanium prosthetic pecker for a Macaw. Hilarious Family Dog Learns How To Copy This Little Girls Cartwheels

In my experience, there’s something special about the combination of kids and dogs. They’re both easily excited, totally innocent, fun-loving and, of course, cute as a button. Whenever you combine the two, good times are sure to follow. Recently, Jacqueline Sloan Ziegler of Georgia learned just how good it can be when she captured this footage of her 18-month-old daughter, Kailyn, playing with their family dog, a rescued pit bull named Oakland. Kailyn’s showing off her cartwheeling skills on tape, but after watching her for a few moments, Oakland decided to try his hand at gymnastics too! Sure, he still needs a little work on his landing, but it’s a great first effort. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/hilarious-dog-copies-little-girls-cartwheels/

Dogs React To A Human Barking

Have you ever tried barking at a dog to see how they would react? Those of us who have done this know that our dogs aren’t very easily convinced. Maybe it’s the fact that they recognize us as people and not dogs, or perhaps our dog impressions simply aren’t as good as we think they are. Whatever the reason, magician Jose Ahonen was interested in what would happen if dogs came face-to-face with a man who has a knack for dog impressions. Voice actor Rudi Rok can bark better than most dogs, which made him the perfect candidate for this experiment. Ahonen puts him in a studio with a bunch of different dogs, turns on the camera, and lets the action unfold. What follows is strange, hilarious, and unlike anything we, or these dogs, have ever seen. Don’t forget to SHARE this funny moment with your friends and family! Read more: http://www.wimp.com/dogs-react-to-a-human-barking/

A Guitar Made From An Old Skateboard

Hector Tepuy is a talented musician, artist and machinist. He’s also somewhat of a skateboarding enthusiast by the look of it, at least enough to be inspired to transform one into something totally unexpected. He calls it a “Lap Skate Guitar,” a play on “lap steel” which is what the flat-lying, slide operated guitars it was inspired by are commonly known as. The guitar is fully functional and sounds great as he plays it. Tepuy says that it “combines skateboarding with music into one sliding experience.” Lap steel guitars are popular in country, Hawaiian and bluegrass music due to the soft, mellow tones produced by the metal slide. These guitars are played in a seated position most of the time, similar to playing a keyboard. They are also tuned differently than a standard guitar tuning. While standard guitars are tuned E-A-D-G-B-e (low-high), lap steel guitars are generally tuned to an open chord such as D , where the guitar is tuned D-A-D-F#-A-D.
