When it comes to tying the knot, there are all sorts of weird and wonderful traditions. These days, surprising your bride or groom with a dance or a song is among the most popular. It takes weeks and months of practice (on top of all the other wedding planning!), but it’s a great treat for your guests … and the other two million people who watch the video on YouTube. However, some of the best moments at weddings are the unscripted. While it may not have been planned for a flower girl to go rogue or an unexpected ring bearer to appear, a memory is created that is simply unforgettable. That’s what happened when these newlyweds decided to release heart balloons into the sky as a celebration of their love. It was a beautiful gesture, but one that quickly goes awry. Valentine’s Day is here and love is very clearly in the air. There are a lot of ways to show your romantic side to that special someone – flowers, candy, a romantic dinner (homemade is a plus) or even just a nice walk while holding hands. One of my personal favorites, however, is a good old-fashioned serenade. Singing is pretty natural to me, but even if you’re not the most musically inclined, you should try it – if music can soothe savage beasts, it’s pretty much guaranteed to at least get you some cuteness points with your significant other. Unfortunately, not everyone is always lucky enough to have someone special in their life at this time of year. Speaking from past personal experience, being single on Valentine’s Day can be mildly annoying at best to crushingly depressing at worst. In those days, my favorite February holiday was actually the 15th – when all the unsold Valentine’s chocolate was 70 percent off! You have to find ways to find your joy in any situation, y’know? Perhaps out of recognition that people who are alone need some extra cheer this holiday, YouTuber Stuart Edge decided to get some friends together and play this fun prank on some unsuspecting “victims.” Dressed in crisp, clean white shirts, black pants and black ties, Stuart and his crew go around finding random lonely ladies to sneak up on and serenade with a romantic pop song or two. They’ve even got roses to hand out! While some of the women were a little shocked, most were pleasantly surprised and received their rose with a thankful smile. Christmas is a special time of year but it seems to me sometimes like it’s losing it’s meaning. So many kids now just seem to demand presents for themselves and even throw tantrums if they don’t get the things they want. It’s sad that there are kids so spoiled out there, because there are also thousands of kids from low-income backgrounds who may not even have a tree, let alone a present to put under it. In this video from UPtv, several children from low-income families were faced with the most difficult choice of their lives. They were presented with two Christmas gifts: one item that was on their ultimate wish list (such as toys, video games, laptops, etc,) and one item that was something for their family (such as a coffee maker or jewelry). It clearly wasn’t an easy choice to make, but remarkably, every single one of them chose their family over themselves. Even more remarkably, very few of them actually hesitated in making that choice, despite the temptation. As one little boy so eloquently put it “Your family matters. Not LEGOS, not toys … your family.” If that doesn’t melt your heart, I don’t know what will. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/kids-choose-christmas-gifts-for-family-over-themselves-heartwarming/
We’re going to keep calling them “ghost sharks,” because “pointy-nosed blue ratfish” just doesn’t sound quite as cool. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/first-footage-of-rare-deep-sea-ghost-shark/
Alexander Graham Bell invented a device so necessary for daily life that we often take it for granted: the telephone. Few devices have changed the way we communicate with each other so dramatically. You can thank him for calls as trivial as ordering pizza and as important as wishing a loved one happy birthday. None of this would have been possible, however, without the ability to record sound. Thomas Edison introduced the phonograph cylinder, the first practical audio recording device, in 1877. Bell furthered Edison’s work by experimenting with gramophone discs as early as 1881. In this recording from 1885, you can hear Bell testing one of these discs. As strange as it seems to listen to a man reading numbers for four minutes, his recording is a valuable link to the past.
