It looks something like a toupee that blew off on a windy day, but the caterpillar stage of Megalopyge opercularis is a very real insect. Commonly known as the puss caterpillar, due to its resemblance to a fluffy house cat, these little creatures are anything but friendly. The reason why it’s so important to know about them is because they look quite cute and it’s quite amusing to watch them wriggle their way up a tree or across the top of a fence. This attraction can pose a hazard to curious children, because those fluffy-looking hairs are actually spikes, loaded with venom. Reactions to the venom typically aren’t fatal, but can be quite severe. They cover anything from a localized, itching, burning rash at the site of the stings, to a full-body mess of burning, tingling, chest pains, blisters, headache, nausea, and more! The best thing you can do if you see one is to avoid it and warn others who may be nearby. If you or someone with you has come into contact, the first thing you should do is try to find some cellophane tape, which can be used to remove the venomous barbs. Then, take an antihistamine and seek medical attention right away. Be sure to SHARE this important information with your friends and family! Let’s face it. The world got hit with a bombshell yesterday. Whether own every single album (all 39 studio and four live!) or just love “Raspberry Beret,” there’s no denying that Prince has had a profound effect on the musical landscape. He courted controversy the way all great musicians do, pushing the envelope every chance he got. He told vivid, often fantastical stories through his music. He also added a much-needed level of diversity to the David Bowie-popularized concept that it’s okay to stand out from the crowd. The fact that we lost both of these tremendous creative forces in the same year is staggering. There isn’t too much to say about Prince that you likely haven’t already read in your Facebook feed or in the millions of tribute pieces that flooded the Internet in the hours after the news broke. So, we thought we’d go a little deeper into one particular performance. Many of Prince’s live performances are incredibly memorable, but this show-stopping performance of “Purple Rain” on The Arsenio Hall Show in 1991 ranks as one of our absolute favorites. It’s not his wildest recorded performance. It’s not the most epic. It’s quintessential Prince, from start to finish, a song delivered with a perfectly balanced combination of talent and emotion (while wearing a fantastic purple suit, of course). It’s a great taste of the sheer joy he had in performing and the sheer enthusiasm of an audience getting the show of a lifetime. His departure has left a huge hole in all our hearts, but at least we’ve got his music. Don’t forget to SHARE this unforgettable performance with your friends and family! Gary Grayson, a 55-year-old adventure enthusiast from the United Kingdom, has done something that many of us wish we had the chance to do: he’s given a seal a belly rub. On a 2014 diving trip, Gary was in the water off the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago southwest of England, when he encountered a sizable Atlantic grey seal. What the seal wanted from him is both unexpected and absolutely adorable. Gary explained in an interview that the seal spent about five minutes with him. He said that, despite all of the adventurous things he’s done in his life, this experience was one of the more surprising he’s had. Maybe his little seal friend had a rough day and just wanted someone to give it a hug, or maybe it became confused and thought it was a dog – either way, the resulting footage is priceless.
