Dolphins are some of the most intelligent animals on earth, as demonstrated by their ability to solve problems, communicate, and even grieve. In order to better understand how these marine mammals communicate, NOVA challenged two dolphins to create an entirely new trick from scratch and perform it. We clearly still have a lot to learn about dolphin language. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/2-dolphins-invent-a-new-trick/
I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve done some dumb stuff while drunk. That said, I’ve never woken up with tattooed eyelids. Following a three-day bender in Mexico with two of his friends, Jay woke up to see that his buddies’ legs were covered in bad, amateur tattoos. Like any good friend, he pointed and laughed — then, they started pointing and laughing back. In a real-life “Hangover” moment, Jay looked in the mirror and was horrified to see that he’d gotten “PARTY 2 IMPACT” tattooed on his eyelids. Once back home in Melbourne, he was able to get his tattoo removed. While he might not remember the pain of getting inked, he won’t soon forget this! Fadi Saleh of baracksdubs has already mixed videos of President Barack Obama singing Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen, so it was only a matter of time before Obama crooned One Direction. Saleh, a biochemistry major who makes these videos in his spare time, has taken viewer requests for Obama’s next dubs since LMFAO’s Sexy and I Know It. Now he’s back with One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful — with a little help from Steve Shane and Matty Trump on instrumentals. Some of the artists covered have tweeted out Saleh’s videos, but he’s more excited to see what viewers on YouTube have to say about them. “I plan to keep doing this until people aren’t entertained by it,” he told the Daily Dot. Can the USA Network lure viewers to its new series, Dig, in just a few seconds? It’s certainly going to try. Starting Jan. 1, the network will roll out 10- to 15-second teasers for the forthcoming conspiracy-filled action-thriller, starring Jason Isaacs and Anne Heche. The teasers will be aired on the network and across various platforms, in an effort to get eyeballs on the series, which begins March 5. Mashable has the first two teasers for you, exclusively, below: Tiny teasers are nothing new, of course — especially since few networks haven’t started using Instagram and Vine to promote their shows. But they’re challenging to create nonetheless, especially for a show with as many twists and turns as this Jerusalem-set murder mystery. Did they succeed? Tell us what you thought of the mini-teasers in the comments below. Read more: http://mashable.com/2014/12/31/dig/
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if there’s one thing we love seeing here at Wimp, it’s unlikely friendships! Whether it’s an elephant and a dog, a piglet and a kitten, or even a trio of a lion, tiger, and bear (oh my!), there’s just something we find heartening about cross-species friendships. It makes the world seem like a friendlier place overall. It also helps prove that if two animals of totally different species can be friends, we humans certainly have no excuse not to get along. Now, we’ve got another great example to add to the list in the form of Seppo Laaman, an elderly Finnish man, and his unlikely best friend, a wild otter whom he’s nicknamed “Iivari.” Iivari showed up starving on Seppo’s doorstep one day, and Seppo kindly took care of him by feeding him worms and fish until he was healthy. Ever since then, the two have been best friends. Let’s be clear, though, Iivari is not Seppo’s pet. He’s still a wild otter who comes and goes as he pleases. He does, however, regularly spend time with Seppo, who is the only human he trusts. He also responds to a few commands, but only when they’re given by his friend. Otters are incredibly smart animals, and clearly Iivari is smart enough to know a true friend when he sees one. Don’t forget to SHARE this fascinating video with your friends and family. Many people think that they are helping the elderly by donating money to charities or volunteering at local food drives. While these are excellent displays of solidarity, more direct acts of kindness are usually the most effective. With that in mind, these people got their hands dirty when one of their neighbors needed help. A 90-year-old woman named Agnes turned to her neighbors when she found herself in a bad place. She was facing steep fines because her house was deemed “too dirty,” and she was told that the government would take action if she didn’t clean up. Luckily for Agnes, some kind people came to the rescue. (via Wimp) Who could possibly fine her now? Never underestimate the generosity of strangers! Kudos to these people for helping out a woman when she needed them most. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/elderly/
“Minecraft is a platform as much as it is a game,” writes Seth Porges in his recent story on Mashable about TeamCrafted, a supergroup of YouTube stars who have made names for themselves simply by playing the game. That platform has turned these guys into Internet celebrities with hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers and millions of YouTube subscribers. And as TeamCrafted grows, so too do the business opportunities. Today at 4 p.m. ET, Mashable will be joined by TeamCrafted members Jerome, Ryan and group manager Matt Michelsen in a live Hangout on Air to talk all things Minecraft, becoming YouTube stars and what the future holds for the group. Presumably unable to resist the view from his high-rise apartment in Colombia, this little dog stuck his body through the railings…but quickly found himself dangling by his back paws. Luckily, the pup has some extremely nosey neighbors, and when they heard his yelps of distress, they sprung into action. Watch as one man climbs up from the balcony on the floor below to help this poor dog, despite the possibility of falling to his own doom. (via Mashable) Yikes! Has anyone in Colombia ever heard of spare keys? Hopefully, the pup’s owner learns to gate the balcony so their sight-seeing pooch doesn’t try to pull this stunt again.
