All you have to do is turn on the TV or flip through a magazine to watch the media rob aging of its beauty. After all, it’s an honor to grow old. Despite all that, cosmetics companies spend millions on making us fear the inevitable by presenting it as something ugly. One artist by the name of Yulia Brodskaya is flipping the script on aging by creating stunning works that celebrate the vibrance of living a long, full life. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); Her portraits serve as snapshots of the wiser set, and they look like paintings at first glance. When you take a closer look, however, you’ll notice that every wrinkle and crease is brought to life with bits of folded paper. Brodskaya pays vivacious, reverent homage to the art of growing old. Yulia Brodskaya googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); }); Yulia Brodskaya Although she once equated her quilling process to drawing with paper, her recent foray into jewel-toned hues brings a painterly vibe to her latest work. Yulia Brodskaya Yulia Brodskaya googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); }); This approach to quilling helped Brodskaya rack up a seriously impressive client list that includes the likes of Neiman Marcus, Hermes, and Starbucks. Yulia Brodskaya Yulia Brodskaya There’s something revelatory about her work that calls on viewers to see familiar sights with fresh eyes. It’s no wonder some of the biggest commercial heavy-hitters in the world want to mark their brands with Brodskaya’s unique stamp of creativity. The day I learned how to do a backbend was the day I felt like I’d just conquered the world. I mean is there anywhere to go from there? Nope. But apparently, I couldn’t have been more wrong. And I didn’t even know it until today, when I met 14-year-old contortionist Sofie Dossi. Typically, contortionists freak me out a little. I mean, surely this is NOT safe. But watching Dossi do her routine, it’s hard not to fall in love with her. She’s absolutely adorable! Don’t get me wrong, though, this still totally gives me the willies. Firefighters are used to rescuing scared cats from tall trees, but what about dogs? When the Plattsmouth Fire Department in Nebraska got a call one night about a 120-pound dog stuck 20 feet up in a tree, they thought for sure it was a prank. They were a little bit shocked when they turned up at the scene to find Kora, a Great Dane, sitting high up in a tree, looking down at them with her big, bright eyes. After a bit of brainstorming, the team of firefighters were finally able to lower Kora from the tree using a rope, a ladder, and a police dog harness. Several feet from the ground, Kora’s weight snapped her restraints, but a few brave volunteers were there to catch her with a big tarp. Although she was a little cold after all that time in the tree, Kora wasn’t hurt and was happy to be down, running straight for the house once she was on solid ground. Hopefully, she’ll leave tree climbing to cats from now on. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/stuck-in-tree/
One of the reasons why I think Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” never gets old is because of all the unique and beautiful covers that breathe new life into it over and over again. Some of the most amazing renditions of the classic song that come to mind are Pentatonix‘s version, the little girl who blew people away while singing with her children’s choir, and more recently, a talented teen who belted it out on a trip to Italy. Along with her high school choir from Kansas, 17-year-old Tiffany Day was in the country on spring break, where the group sang in various cathedrals. When they walked up to a well in Venice, she decided to sing into it to find out how it would sound — and what came out was amazing. This totally gave me goosebumps. (via BoredPanda) Read More: This Reimagined Version Of ‘Hallelujah’ Will Give You All Of The Chills What a set of pipes! I’m sure the late Leonard Cohen would definitely be proud. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); Above all, cops are paid to protect and serve…but if you were to ask the officers at the Dixon Police Department in Illinois, they’d probably say the job is about more than that. Helping the community, solving crimes, these duties are just part of the work…but no one said they had to take time out of their busy and sometimes dangerous days to do this. Recently, these neighborhood kids were battling the summer heat by playing with water guns in their yard when all of the sudden, officers from the Dixon PD attacked them — with more water guns! This is so cute. It’s so nice to see videos of cops having fun just like the rest of us. Let’s all use our phones and cameras to capture more moments like this. The mother of these stray puppies left them one day in search of food. Unfortunately for the pups, she never returned. The tiny pooches had to scavenge for food and try to survive on their own. Luckily, someone from the neighborhood stepped in and fed them for a few weeks and then called the good people at Hope For Paws. When they arrived to rescue the little guys, the puppies were harder to catch than anyone could have expected. What a happy ending! And what a difference a bath and a warm bed made in their disposition. Hopefully someone will adopt them and give them all a good home. Until then, they are clearly in good hands!
