Learn About The Man Who Inspired The World’s Largest One-Day Cancer Research Fundraiser
In 1977, at the young age of 18 years old, Terry Fox found out that he was dying of cancer. At the time, Terry was a successful athlete at Simon Fraser University as both a distance runner and a basketball player. Soon after his diagnosis, Terry underwent an operation that left him without a right leg. This is when the legend of Terry Fox began.
Terry’s trek across Canada made him a hero to many and the grief of his death was shared by the entire country. Today he is memorialized in statues, documentaries, and most notably in the Terry Fox Run For Cancer Research. The charitable run was founded in 1981 and is now supported in over 60 countries. It is also the world’s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research.
