Jackie Evancho Delivers A Stirring Performance Of “I Believe”

Classical music has a new star, and her name is “Jackie Evancho.” Well, since she made her debut about seven years ago, the young singer might not be “new,” but she’s definitely putting a new spin on the genre of classical music. Her first big break came when she was only 10 years old. After submitting to talent competition after talent competition, Evancho finally found an audience when she submitted one of her YouTube videos to the 5th season of America’s Got Talent. She went on to finish in 2nd place that season, a dangerous place for any singer who could easily fade back into obscurity after minor success on reality television. Jackie, on the other hand, did quite the opposite. So many people had seen what she was capable of on America’s Got Talent, and she began experiencing a surge of popularity.

That following winter, Evancho released “O Holy Night,” her first EP. This record earned her the titles of “Best Selling Debut Artist of 2010,” “Youngest Top-10 Debut Artist in U.S. History” and “Youngest Platinum Solo Artist in the U.S.” Impressed yet? If not, we’re just getting started. She’s performed in front of President Barack Obama and is the youngest person to have ever performed a solo concert in New York City’s famous Lincoln Center.

Believe it or not, her greatness doesn’t end on the stage. Jacke Evancho is also an ambassador for a program called “Mission: Humane,” which teaches children about the importance of protecting animals. She’s still touring and releasing new music today, so be sure to check out her website if you’re interested in seeing her live. This clip from 2011 features Jackie singing a song composed by her Uncle Matthew. If she was this good four years ago, we can hardly imagine how good she’ll be four years from now.
