Racing People Vs. Horses
When it comes to short-term athletic performance, humans don’t stack up to most animals. That’s why we judge cars by their horsepower instead of their people-power. There’s one area of human athleticism that proves to be the exception to the rule. That exception is long distance running. Humans are incredible long distance runners. We might not run as fast as most animals, but we can run farther in a single sitting than most of them. That’s where the human vs. horse race comes in.
For the last 36 years, the town of Llanwrtyd Wells in Wales has held a human vs. horses race to see who is the greatest beast of all. Most years the horses win, but a few times man has triumphed over the beasts. In this video, you’ll get a look at exactly why this race happens, and some highlights from this year’s event. Enjoy.
