The Solar System Built To Scale In A Nevada Desert
We’ve all seen images of the solar system in books or on the news, but it’s rare for those images to truly show the size and scale of the planets and their orbit. This was a problem that especially bothered Wylie Overstreet and Alex Gorosh. They were tired of seeing false models of the solar system so they decided to build there own.
Using a dry lakebed in the Nevada desert, the team used an area of seven miles to show a true-to-scale model of the solar system. Their model gives a whole new perspective to the size of our universe. Incredibly, if they were using the same scale, the next closest solar system would be over 1500 miles away.
