This Mom’s Experiment Proves That Bottled Water Is Not As “Healthy” As It Claims
Among the many things that I had an interesting time adjusting to when I first came to the United States was the fact that everyone was drinking bottled water. Don’t get me wrong, I’m originally from India, where the water is not safe to drink otherwise, so the bottles themselves weren’t the weird part. What was odd for me was the fact that well-to-do people who definitely had clean, drinkable tap water were still buying crates of water. It just seemed a little redundant.
Now, I’ve been here long enough to realize that the tap water in America might not always be the most reliable (*cough cough* Flint *cough*), but in most places (and especially where I live), the tap water is fine. In fact, some studies have even shown that in a few parts of the country the tap water can even be cleaner than some of the leading bottled water brands.
With all the brands out there, it’s easy to get confused when trying to choose the right one to buy. Holly Inskeep, a mom from Ohio, recently uploaded this video to her Facebook page, where it’s been seen over two million times already! In it, she and her son Carson use pH strips to test 9 samples of water – 8 from popular water brands (Aquafina, Dasani, Evian, Fiji, Pure Life, Smart, Sam’s, and Voss) and one “control” sample of tap water that they ran through a Brita filter.
The results are pretty surprising. They found that out of all nine samples, only three were not acidic (Evian, Fiji, and the Brita filter water). Although the information presented here is hardly a rigorously conducted medical trial, it’s something to think about. In recent years, foods that create an acidic environment in the body have been getting linked to an increased risk of cancer, so it may not be the worst idea to invest in a home water filter.
