What’s the craziest thing you can think of that anyone’s every done for charity? Ok, got it? Well Englishman Stuart Kettell, has it beat. Last week, instead of doing a marathon or maybe walking across the country, he decided to push a Brussels sprout up Mount Snowdon (the highest mountain in Whales) using just his nose. Yep, that’s right. It took Kettell four days in total to complete his 3,560 foot journey crawling on his hands and knees. He wore special gloves, knee pads, and a face protector to ensure he didn’t injure himself. Kettell used a total of 22 different sprouts over the course of his adventure. His goal was to raise £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. According to his fund raising page he’s nearly at his goal. Here is Kettell looking in high spirits. Metro Wearing his specially designed face mask. BBC Gotta keep on rolling. Stuart Kettell Kettell’s friend hiked the journey along with him, and filmed the whole thing for a mini documentary they’re looking to release. Check out the trailer. This also isn’t the first stunt Kettell has pulled for charity for Macmillan Cancer Support (though it probably is the craziest). Here are a few others. 2007 – Flew around Britain in a flexwing microlight right after finishing his training. Stuart Kettell 2008 – Rode across the country on a penny farthing (old bicycle). Stuart Kettell 2009 – Kayaked from France to England. Stuart Kettell 2010 – Lived in a small box for a week suspended by a crane. Stuart Kettell 2011 – Seven marathons in seven days in a giant human hamster wheel. Stuart Kettell 2012 – Hung suspended by helium balloons for seven days. Stuart Kettell 2013 – Walked every street in the town of Coventry (500 miles) on a pair of stilts. Stuart Kettell 2014 – Levitated in mid air for a week. Those of you who have a dog know how excited and hyper they get during playtime. This is especially true if the game in question has anything to do with objects that they can fetch. Whenever I take my dogs to the park and bring a ball, they practically knock me over while jumping up and trying to grab it out of my hand. At least I’m able to keep standing, though — unlike this poor kid. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); While enjoying a nice family game of baseball, this little boy pulled off an awesome hit and began running around the bases as fast as he could. But as he was about to reach home plate, his pup sprinted toward him like a bat out of hell. That’s gotta hurt. Look, buddy — I know you’re having a great time winning and everything, but I have a piece of advice for you: Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/youre-out-dog/
While the National Park Service assures us that bears have little interest in eating humans, the bear in this video is not your average beast. A man was working in a Canadian forest when he noticed a cinnamon black bear in the distance. He calmly walked to another area of the woods, but the bear eventually reappeared. That time, it was even closer As you watch the situation unfold, you have to wonder if this guy made it out in the end. It is unclear what the fate of this man was, since at least three people in the comments section claim to be his cousin. Hopefully, the account that the man made it to camp and shot the bear with his rifle is the true story. No one wants to see an animal die, but in situations like this, self-preservation often takes precedence. The National Park Service says that the best way to deal with a bear is to speak calmly and let it know that you have no intention of hurting it. If a black bear does attack, however, they urge you to fight back using any available objects, concentrating your blows on the muzzle area. Good to know. Artistic talent comes in many different forms, to Paul Smith, his artistic talent came in the form of a typewriter. Paul was born in 1921 with severe spastic cerebral palsy, but one day he learned to use a standard typewriter to create beautiful pictures that from a distance resemble fine pencil or pastel drawings. You won’t believe the incredible works this extraordinary man was able to create by using only a few keys on the typewriter. I say was because sadly Paul passed away in 2007, but his beautiful art lives on. (Source: John Stofflet) What an incredible artist Paul was, I’m constantly amazed and humbled by the talents of so many people who have such overwhelming obstacles to tackle. Here are a few of his artworks: Read more: http://viralnova.com/typewriter-art/
Any high school-aged coders with a love for space and NASA out there? Read on. Zero Robotics, a robotics programming competition set up through MIT, is entering its fourth year — and there’s still a day left to register. Here’s how it works: Students can sign up in teams for free on the website. Over the course of the semester, they compete head-to-head with other teams in writing programs — sort of situational, scenario-based challenges. Gradually, the challenges get more difficult. Then, after several phases, finalists are selected to compete in running code for the International Space Station (ISS) — which is broadcast live by an astronaut on board the ISS. Since 2009, the competition has allowed participants to compete in a series of coding challenges through an online platform. “There’s a whole ranking system that tells them how well they’re doing as they’re going through it,” said Jake Katz, co-founder of the competition and research assistant in the Space Stations laboratory at MIT. “And throughout the course of the season, the game gets slightly more complex. They start out in two dimensions and then they will soon, around Oct. 5, be going into 3-D competition — then we add some additional challenges towards the end.” The original kick off for this year’s competition was on Sept. 8. But, Katz said, there’s still a day left to register. “There have been people participating so far, and are already off and running with it, but it’s still possible to join in and make a submission for the first phase,” he said. “We have 75 teams so far, and that’s just from the U.S.” There are an additional 43 teams from 19 other countries, he said. The competition is sponsored by NASA, DARPA, TopCoder, Aurora Flight Sciences, CASIS and MIT. TopCoder, a programming company, designed the platform the games are played on. “In 2009, when we started, we had just two teams competing against each other,” Katz said. “Just two years later, we had about 100 teams from all over sign up.” Check out the promotional video below: What kind of code would you write to run on board the ISS? Let us know in the comments. Read more: http://mashable.com/2012/09/26/zero-robotics-mit/

Chameleons are some of the coolest reptiles out there. They’re some of the most unique camouflage artists in the animal kingdom because they don’t just blend into their surroundings — they change their skin to fit in. Chameleons don’t always camouflage themselves, however. They can also be bright and completely stand out, as one panther chameleon owner found out recently. He holds the reptile in front of the mirror and captures the amazing transformation in real time. This is so cool! (via Goodfullness) Chameleons are basically the coolest pets ever. I can’t stop watching this video! Share it with the animal lovers you know who will be amazed by this natural work of art. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/chameleon-changing/
