We’re still discovering new things about Cuba all the time. The stories that come out of this the country that spent decades isolated from the rest of the world are sometimes astonishing and heartbreaking. One such story is the plight of Los Frikis, a Cuban punk community that emerged in the ’80s. Los Frikis drew inspiration from other punk movements around the globe. While members of punk movements are often marginalized, in Cuba, they were persecuted. Many were rejected by their families, harassed, arrested, and forced to do manual labor for their “crimes.” To escape their oppression, hundreds in the community took the drastic step of injecting themselves with the HIV virus, which little was known about then. They were able to take shelter in sanatoriums where they were provided with medical care, food, and safety. On Monday, May 26, 2014, a rare EF-2 tornado ripped through Watford City, North Dakota. Peak winds of 120mph were reported by the National Weather Service and the tornado was estimated to be 100 yards wide, with a path of a half-a-mile long. Luckily, oil workers stationed just south of the city managed to capture the most amazing tornado footage I’ve ever seen. You seriously need to check this out. I can’t believe those guys survived! Wow. I guess I won’t be headed to North Dakota anytime soon… Source: YouTube via BuzzFeed Read more: http://viralnova.com/north-dakota-tornado/
This incredibly serene video features the most chill cat imaginable, Shiro, and his son Kuro. The two are enjoying a relaxing day outside on the roof of a car. But they’re not alone… A tiny frog appears to have found the perfect sunbathing spot — on Shiro’s paw. The three friends seem like they’re feeling oneness with the universe, and so will you after watching this. If that wasn’t Zen enough for you, then how about a video of Shiro chillaxing with the same frog on his head? The next time you’re at a yoga class and the instructor asks you to take a moment to clear your mind for some peaceful meditation, instead of focusing on that cheap tabletop water fountain from Target, I want you to think about Shiro. You’ll instantly become one with the universe around you. Namaste, Zen Master Shiro. Thank you for all you have shown us. YouTube Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/cats-and-frog/

In early 2016, a maintenance worker was walking through a student dorm at Sheffield University in South Yorkshire, England, when he noticed a heartbreaking sight. As the man entered the residence’s kitchen, a small creature ran up to him. It turned out to be a little hedgehog who was in really bad shape — so much so that it was shocking. The poor thing had endured unimaginable cruelty at the hands of absolute monsters who disfigured him. Whoever was responsible for the abuse had intentionally cut off his spines, which play a crucial role in protecting these animals against predators. YouTube / SWNS Animals Hedgehogs can have as many as 8,000 spines, and as shown below, most of his had been cut. YouTube / SWNS Animals The animal was taken to Allan Broadhead and his wife Anita, who run Cawthorne Hedgehog Rescue and Care Centre in Barnsley. They said they’ve “never seen a hog in such a state of neglect and deliberate harm.” Unfortunately, the hedgehog they named Frankie also had a bad case of ringworm. No one really wants to be on an airliner that loses cabin pressure, but if it happens to you, rest assured your iPad will continue to work. The Jeppesen division of Boeing, which creates digital flight charts and sells iPad-based electronic flight bags used by commercial and military pilots, said it recently completed a rapid decompression test of iPads, including the new mini. The test was conducted in an on-ground pressure chamber that simulated a quick drop in flight altitude from 51,000 feet to 8,000 feet, and the gizmos just plugged along. Of course, a paper chart also would function just as well in such a test. But who uses paper anymore? I never really grew out of the whole I-hate-brushing-my-teeth childhood phase. Really, the only reason I do it is because I think having bad breath is the absolute worst. I’m pretty diligent about mouth hygiene, but I’m also entirely stingy with my toothpaste. A little goes a long way so it takes me a while to go through a tube. But now that I know just how useful toothpaste is outside of the sink, I may go through a tube in no time! 1. Buff out crayon marks on your walls with some toothpaste and a soft rag.
