In a match made in movie trailer heaven, Disney villain Maleficent stalks victims as Lana Del Rey’s haunting vocals play ominously in the background. A 90-second trailer for the new movie Maleficent debuted during the Grammy Awards Sunday night, offering an extended sneak peek at the film. The movie features Angelina Jolie as the titular horned character and serves as both a prequel and retelling of the classic story of Sleeping Beauty, where the villainess will finally get to share her side of the story. Del Rey croons the classic Disney song “Once Upon A Dream” — the same song that appeared in the original 1959 animated version of Sleeping Beauty. Her haunting voice sets the tone for the movie, which promises to be be much darker than the original. Jolie perfectly fits the part of Mistress of All Evil, cracking wry smiles and generally looking foreboding. The film hits theaters on May 30. Disney Research in Zurich, Switzerland, has developed a new process called “Physical Face Cloning” that allows it to create realistic animatronic characters. The technology scans the head of a human before putting the coordinates and expressions into a 3D program. Measurements such as skin and thickness are then used to produce a 3D printed mold of the face before a silicon layer of syntheic skin is attached. The result is a realistic-looking robotic head with accurate expressions and features such as wrinkles. Disney will use the technology and process to produce life-like animatronic figures in its theme parks to add to the realism of the interactive characters. Watch the video below to see the entire process. Whether you’re excited about Star Wars: Episode VII or not, nearly all would agree that the upcoming director — whomever that might be — has some very high expectations to meet. Who do you picture the perfect director to lead the next generation of Star Wars fans? Is it Spielberg? Tarantino? Conan O’Brien picked Wes Anderson for the job during his show on Wednesday night — the latest in a series of hypothetical directors auditioning for the new Star Wars. Anderson is known for films such as The Life Aquatic, Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums, and has a very distinct aesthetic style. A Life Galactic — which is shown above, and obviously a parody — has many elements of Anderson’s previous films: Helvetica font, quirky decor and anticlimactic arguments. Sounds perfect for a scene as controversial as “Han Shot First,” right? BONUS: 10 Out of This World Star Wars-Disney Mashups Star Wars / Disney Memes Cool story, bro.
