10 Tim Burton Films You Can Watch Online

, , , , , , , ,

10 Tim Burton Films You Can Watch Online 1. Beetlejuice When it comes to comedy horror flicks, Beetlejuice is certainly one of the zaniest. It follows the Maitlands (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin), a recently deceased couple haunting a lovely New England home that belonged to them in life. When the obnoxious Deetz family purchases the house, the Maitlands try their best to scare them away. They bring in a supposed bio-exorcist named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) as a last resort, but this mischievous ghoul just ends up causing even more trouble. Check out this movie on Amazon Instant Video or iTunes. 2. Big Fish Everyone tells a tall tale once in a while, but in Big Fish, Will Bloom (Billy Crudup) thinks his father, Edward (Albert Fenney), tells too many. With Edward on his deathbed, Will hopes to hear the truth about his father’s life but only gets more stories. The movie shows these vivid flashbacks following young Edward (Ewan McGregor) on many adventures full of colorful characters and locales. Bit by bit, Will puts together the truth from among the tall tales. Big Fish is a film that is both touching and surreal, with lots of magic in every scene. You can watch this larger-than-life story through iTunes and Amazon Instant Video. 3. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is Burton’s adaptation of a Roald Dahl novel of the same name. The plot follows Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore), a poor boy whose life changes when he finds a golden ticket in a chocolate bar. The ticket is part of a contest held by the mysterious Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp), and it grants Charlie entrance to a tour of Wonka’s wondrous chocolate factory. Underneath all the bright colors, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory manages to capture the darker side of the original book, and you can definitely see Burton’s unique stamp on the story. Stream this sweet adventure on Amazon Instant Video or in iTunes. 4. Corpse Bride For something on the romantic side, you could go with Corpse Bride, another of Burton’s stop-motion animated works. In this story, Victor Van Dort (Johnny Depp) is engaged to the girl he loves, Victoria Everglot (Emily Watson), but he botches his vows during their wedding rehearsal. While he practices them in the forest, Victor accidentally winds up married to the Corpse Bride, Emily (Helena Bonham Carter), who was killed on the night she was going to elope with her fiancé. At first, Emily doesn’t want to let Victor go back to the land of the living, but they both realize he should be with his love. You can watch this ghostly love story through both Amazon Instant and iTunes. 5. Edward Scissorhands If you’re looking for one of Burton’s most iconic works, check out his dark fairy tale Edward Scissorhands. It has a compelling plot and was met with critical acclaim; plus, like Frankenweenie, it could be viewed as a loose retelling of the Frankenstein story. Edward (Johnny […]

Gina Bianchini: 5 Talks That Inspired Me

, , , ,

As the co-founder of Ning, Gina Bianchini was a pioneer in social networking. As the current founder and CEO of MightyBell, she is continuing to help people use social software in a way that connects them both online and off. Bianchini is passionate about developing tools that allow people to share their ideas and interests by forging unique online identities and connect in intimate setting both on the web and in the real world. It is those themes that draw her to her favorite TEDTalks. Below are five talks that intrigue Bianchini and notes on why she chose them. Sherry Turkle: Connected, but alone? “I particularly enjoy this talk as [my company] Mightybell just happens to answer the problem presented!” Daphne Koller: What we’re learning from online education “I like this talk as it got me thinking that for huge online classes, people could benefit from a private space for the class to break into study group spaces. Additionally, she speaks about active learning and discusses that there is not active learning online, which I think can and should be changed.” Matt Cutts: Try something new for thirty days “I enjoyed this talk as is an example of a tool one can use to plan and then track your progress over 30 day challenges and allows you to do it with friends.” Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action “I am fond of this talk as it is focuses on how the ‘why’ of a company is more important than the ‘what’ and inspires people to take action to change lives and the world.” Brene Brown: The power of vulnerability “This particular talk was exciting to me as it gives people the opportunity to create a new social identity based upon their interests, passions, and goals, and to have an intimate community that supports one no matter what, no matter how vulnerable. It discusses how to help each member grow as everyone in the intimate community accepts him or herself and the other members, and celebrates the members’ identities shown through their interests, passions, and goals.” Image via Flickr, JD Lasica Read more: http://mashable.com/2012/11/22/gina-bianchini-ted/

Polo Ralph Lauren Goes Camping on Instagram

, , , , , , , , , , ,

These days, it’s not just print and television that secure dedicated campaigns — Instagram and Vine are getting them, too. Earlier this week, Polo Ralph Lauren began rolling out a series of nine 15-second videos on Instagram as part of its “Polo Ralph Lauren Survival Guide.” As of Sunday, seven of the videos have rolled out, demonstrating, for example, how to pitch a tent (see below), how to start a fire and how to chill and uncork a bottle of champagne. The videos aren’t practical guides, of course. Rather, they provide a backdrop to Polo Ralph Lauren’s cable-knit sweaters, down jackets and leather boots. A company spokesperson said they’re designed “to capture the essence of the new Polo collections — the Explorer’s Club and Country Gentleman,” collections that are both “rugged yet wearable.” The entire campaign was shot and edited on an iPhone, according to the company. And judging by the image, below, it had an impressive iPhone rig to work with. Although Ralph Lauren denied any connection, the videos remind us of Lowe’s wildly popular Fix in Six Vine campaign, which offers a series of home-improvement tips in six-second videos. (The campaign recently won Mashable‘s Best in Show award at The Mashies.) Image: Polo Ralph Lauren Read more: http://mashable.com/2013/10/13/polo-ralph-lauren-instagram/

Watch Keanu Reeves Dodge Fire in ’47 Ronin’ Trailer

, , , , , , , , ,

Universal Pictures released the first trailer for 47 Ronin on Wednesday, starring Keanu Reeves as “The One” — but in a very different setting. In the clip, viewers get a glimpse of Reeves as an outcast, slave and wild samurai warrior. The bearded, blade-wielding protagonist dodges fire face-first and goes head-to-head with a dragon (of sorts). 47 Ronin is based on an 18th-century tale of clan warfare and revenge surrounding a band of 47 loyal samurais, who are seeking vengeance after the murder of their master. The movie, directed by Carl Rinsch, also stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano. 47 Ronin premieres on Dec. 25. Watch the trailer above to see Reeves in action and let us know what you think in the comments, below. She Took A Daily Selfie While Battling Depression. Here Is The result…It’s Truly Inspiring.

, , , , , ,

Six and a half years ago U.K. film student Rebecca Brown began a selfie-a-day project documenting her life. Brown who is now 21, started the project in 2007 when she was 14 years old. She’s now compiled the roughly 2100 pictures into a video on her Youtube channel. The video documents her battle with depression, anxiety, and an impulse control disorder, a form of OCD, known as trichotillomania. Trichotillomania is a unique disorder that causes a person to pull out their own hair when anxious. Brown says that the project is ongoing and she plans to continue it as long as she can. H/T: Elite Daily “Beauty is more than what we see with the eyes. People are more than their conditions. I am more than my hair and skin. This only shows my exterior, I hope that people will check out my videos to see more of the girl inside,” said Brown in the comments section of the video. , , , , ,

10 YouTube Videos Every College Student Needs to See 1. How to Do Laundry This YouTube tutorial will make you a wash-and-fold pro. Plus, the guys will enjoy learning from an attractive woman who hang-dries her thongs. 2. How to Have Safe Sex While this video doesn’t contain explicit — er — tutorials, it does explain the importance of protection and strong communication before and during your sexual encounters. Contact your campus’ student health counselor with more questions or for more info about safe sex. And be sure your parents are wearing their own raincoats, too. 3. The Freshman 15 A comical PSA warns college n00bs of the dreaded Freshman 15, to the tune of ’90s song “The Freshman,” by The Verve Pipe. 4. How to Tidy Up in Three Minutes Handy for when your parents drop by at 1 p.m. on a Sunday — and you’re still asleep. Bonus: Speaking from experience, this is a valuable skill to have even post-grad. 5. How to Do a Keg Stand Precise form, proper leverage, cheap beer: all the ingredients for a killer keg stand — not that you’ll be drinking in college, right? Be sure to memorize how to play beer pong, too. Game variations per fraternity not included. 6. How to Live on a Budget Budgets sound pretty bust, but they’re actually quite simple and incredibly effective. If you do it right, you won’t have to take that after-school job at Pinkberry (although, that is where you’ll meet all the hot chicks, #justsayin). 7. How to Organize Your Dorm Room YouTube user nikkithebrat creates helpful organization and design tutorials for the college generation. Guys, just replace everything pink with another color — unless, of course, that’s your bag. 8. 10 Dorm Comfort Items She may look like your mom, but Cindy Kunz is down. She suggests bringing things to college like an electric teapot, which let’s face it, is pretty clutch. 9. Shit Sorority Girls Say The “Shit People Say” movement may be dead, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn a thing or two from the videos. For instance, according to sorority girls, “Fro-yo doesn’t have any calories.” Stereotypes aside, this video and its brother production, “Shit Frat Guys Say,” can be pretty accurate. 10. How to Fold a Fitted Sheet Learning how to fold a fitted sheet may not seem like a priority, but in truth, nothing is sexier than a tidy stack of linens. BONUS: Sweatpants Let’s get something straight: Sweats are rad. You will wear them every single day at college, whether in hoodie, pant or headband form. That being said, there is a time and a place for all things fleece. Lecture hall? Meh, probably. Late night munchies run? Duh. Date night? Fool, get real. This ‘Magic Mike’ Audition Is Nothing But Creepy

, , , , ,

NOTE: The video above may be NSFW. Actors Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey often play roles that require little-to-no clothing, and moviegoers seem to be pretty ok with that in their latest flick Magic Mike. But what if a more unconventional sex symbol was stripping on the big screen? The self-proclaimed assistant to Jason Biggs “leaked” a video of the American Pie actor’s audition tape. Though it’s validity is questionable, the video above is slightly more SFW than his first movie strip-down — but in many ways, it’s equally embarrassing. This Week’s Hot Viral Videos ‘Simon’s Cat’ Partakes in the Animal Olympics A new “Simon’s Cat” video hit the web Saturday, and this one gets into the competitive spirit of the Olympics … with a snail race. Will Ferrell Lashes Out at Kristen ‘Trampire’ Stewart Someone give Will Ferrell a box of tissues and pint of Ben & Jerry’s because the funnyman needs help healing his broken heart. Ferrell sat down with Conan O’Brien and let his emotions spill out as he discussed the recent breakup of Twilight stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (or “Patterson,” as Ferrell referred to him). A Real Dad Won’t Save You if You’re ‘Taken’ The 2008 thriller Taken, about an American girl kidnapped by human traffickers in Paris, raised anxiety levels for many worrywort parents. The film isn’t based on a true story, but that didn’t stop moms and dads from wondering what they would do in a similar situation. 90-Year-Old Pole Vaulter Will Make You Feel Lazy Meet Dr. William Bell, a 90-year-old fitness nut who holds a pole vault world record for his age group. Pfft, as if a bunch of buff 20-something Olympic swimmers prancing their six-packs around the pool didn’t already make us all feel like a bunch of unaccomplished cubicle potatoes this week. Envy aside, Dr. Bell could provide a helpful dose of pick-me-up to any of us feeling a bit lapsed in the physical fitness department Choo-Choo-Choose to Watch Excited Train Guy Maybe it’s the rumble of the engine or the sound of the horn, but something has this train enthusiast yelling with excitement.
