If you’re going to get thrown off the field, you might as well go in style, right? This pants-less goal celebration definitely qualifies. It comes courtesy of Mario Djurovski, a Macedonian midfielder for Thai soccer club Muangthong United. After a sweet score, he drops trou, puts his shorts on top of his head and motions strangely toward the stands. The referee, as you’ll see, is not impressed, and hits Djurovski with a red card. Basketball-obsessed teens have been doing it forever: Creeping up on unsuspecting friends during everyday life to throw down vicious imaginary dunks. But they haven’t always had social media to record their posterizing pranks for posterity’s sake. That’s the genesis of a hilarious sports trend called “Dunk Cam” that’s sprung up on Vine and other social networks this summer. Its roots can likely be best traced to a GIF from a high school ambush that went viral in May, and it’s only picked up steam as of late. Hallways, locker rooms, doorways — no place is safe. But there’s a problem. Until now, Dunk Cam videos have emerged clip by clip, ephemeral mini-doses of basketball comedy that bubble up then fade into the digital ether. The music streaming service pored over number-one hits, volume and growth of streams and shares, as well as viral chart success from the past year to determine who made the cut. This new political ad from Priorities USA Action, an Obama-affiliated Super PAC, may be the most brutal ad yet from the 2012 presidential election. Called “Understands,” the ad features the story of Joe Soptic, who claims he lost his job after Bain Capital, the financial services company for which Mitt Romney once served as CEO, shut down a plant where he worked. Soptic lost his health insurance along with his job, meaning he couldn’t pay for his wife’s treatment when she was diagnosed with cancer. Soptic’s wife died as he stood by, helpless. The seemingly implied message of the ad: Mitt Romney indirectly killed Soptic’s wife. Yikes. That implication aside, the factual foundation of the ad is built on tenuous ground. As the Washington Post pointed out on Tuesday, Mitt Romney had left Bain Capital before Soptic’s plant closed. A representative of Priorities USA Action also told the Washington Post that “this is another in a series of ads that demonstrates how long it took for communities and individuals to recover from the closing of these businesses.” Is this ad on target, or does it go too far?
