A Moped With An Unusual Sound System

Mopeds, otherwise known as motorcycle’s younger siblings, are an easy and fuel-efficient way to get around town. The term originally described motorcycle/bicycle hybrids, but now means scooters with less speed and license requirements than motorcycles. Unlike the deep, intimidating roar of a Harley’s engine, mopeds make a distinctly higher whirring sound when revved up. When a moped is driving at full speed, it makes a noise that sounds like the world’s largest mosquito buzzing past your ear.  When the gentleman in this video purchased his moped, he was probably disappointed to discover that it didn’t make the distinct sound that others do. Not content with a silent ride, this guy got one of his friends to help make sure he had the loudest ride on the block. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/moped-engine-sound-trumpet/

Catch Of The Year

Diving and leaping catches are impressive, but they are nothing compared to what Francis Owusu just pulled off in a recent game against UCLA. The Stanford receiver caught the ball on the back of a defender while falling in the endzone for one of the most remarkable touchdowns you are ever likely to see. It may not be how the coach drew it up, but the trick play gave the Cardinal six points and led them to a big win over their conference rivals.  The play is reminiscent of another great catch made by former University of Alabama receiver Tyler Prothro. It may even be up there with the incredible catch made last year by Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr., a catch that many considered to be the greatest of all time. This Is What Happens When A Semi-Truck Full Of Bees Flips Over On A Highway

North America is currently suffering through a worrisome bee crisis. However, there was no shortage of bees on this Oklahoma highway when a semi-truck carrying a load of bees tipped over spilling a massive swarm onto the road. When police arrived on the scene, the swarm swallowed up the patrol vehicle, stranding this officer inside his car.  The semi-truck was carrying honey bees to a local bee farm when the driver lost control of the truck and tipped over. Fortunately, everyone including the driver escaped the scene without any serious injuries, except for maybe a few stings. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/semi-truck-of-bees-flips-over/

The Valley Girl Speech Pattern Meets The 21st Century

If you’ve ever watched reality tv, then you are probably familiar with the concept of vocal fry. It’s a popular method of speaking where words are drawn out with a low, grungy twinge. Many find the sound of vocal fry annoying, but are there more serious consequences? Faith Sallie investigated and found that the use of vocal fry is a lot more prevalent than previously thought, especially among college-aged girls. It was also found to be dangerous to the long-term health of your vocal chords. Some medical experts even classify it as a disorder. So next time you want to emulate a Kardashian in your everyday life, stop and think before you talk. Read more: http://www.wimp.com/why-vocal-fry-ruins-the-way-we-talk/

This Seems Like A Simple Cat Video, But Wait Until You Hear When It Was Recorded

Before “Grumpy Cat” or “I Can Has Cheezburger,” there was the 1901 short film The Sick Kitten that started it all. Directed by George Albert Smith, who many consider to be a pioneer of modern film, the 34-second-long piece tells the story of two young children giving medicine to a kitten who has fallen ill.  The Sick Kitten offers us a fascinating glimpse into what early cinema looked like. In 1901, motion pictures had only been around for a few years, and artists like Smith were shaping the future of the industry with their innovative techniques. In fact, Smith was one of the first directors to use close-up shots, an example of which can be seen when the kitten is eating its “medicine.” This film proves that after 114 years, audiences are still just as in love with cat videos as they were back then. Little Girl Discovers A Man On The Moon

This commercial from U.K. retailer John Lewis is a metaphor, in case you missed it. There are plenty of lonely people out there, who rarely get the chance to exchange even a wave or a smile with others. This is bad enough any day of the week, but during the holidays, everything’s magnified and you might as well be thousands of miles away. Sometimes, the only way to recognize how isolated people can get is through the eyes of a child. They see things a little more clearly. Make sure that this holiday season, you take the time to reach out to folks you might otherwise forget. It will only take a little effort on your part, but could mean the world to them. Toy Trumpet Techno Tunes

There’s an old adage about skill that says, “It’s the archer, not the arrow.” It means that if someone is talented, the quality of their tools doesn’t really matter. In other words, Serena Williams could use a frying pan instead of a tennis racquet and still win against an amateur. A great artist will always find a way for their talent to shine through, even if the materials at their disposal aren’t very good. Chris Ott is one of those great artists. A trombonist by trade, Ott challenged himself to cover an iconic techno song using only a toy trumpet. Darude, the song’s original artist, would be proud of the sounds he’s able to produce from the cheap instrument, sounds that the manufacturers never imagined their toy would be used for.
