Dad Makes Awesome ‘Aliens’ Halloween Costume for Daughter

, , ,

Halloween has always been a good chance for parents and kids to bond. But this dad took it to another level — or shall we say, to another planet? Inspired by the movie Aliens, YouTube user Jason Smith built a Power Loader robot suit, so that he and his daughter could go around at Halloween wearing the same costume. He became the suit, while his daughter basically became Sigourney Weaver. The costume, constructed of cardboard boxes and hot glue, took two nights and a day for Smith to make, according to his video description. “My highest priority was keeping my little girl safe, so the costume was designed for mobility and quick exit in case of emergency,” writes Smith. Bonus points for being an imaginative and responsible dad. Watch the video above to see this amazing two person costume in action. have you ever seen anything like this? These 7 Amazing Videos Show How Different Makeup Styles Can Be Worldwide

With increased access to others and other cultures, makeup and makeup products are increasingly available across the globe. Brands are continuing to expand outside of their original markets, making this a really exciting time for beauty trends in the world. I myself am no makeup guru. In fact, most days you can find me sporting little to none, but I love to use it when I dress up. That’s what makes makeup an amazing form of self expression. As it turns out, it can also be a form of cultural self expression. Because American popular culture is so dominant around the world, we perhaps don’t think enough about the beauty and makeup practices of people in other countries. Seeing makeup artists apply the looks side-by-side, however, is really enlightening. Here are seven different countries’ makeup looks compared to what we’re used to in the U.S.A. 1. American vs. French by Christen Dominique Screenshot Youtube / Christen Dominique Youtube / Christen Dominique French makeup tends to be more subtle, especially around the eyes and brows. This artist used six or seven different eyeshadow shades when working on the American side, but she only used one on the French. When it comes to lips, though, that’s where the French get bold. Connecticut-based artist Stella Maria Baer’s dreamy planet paintings have earned her more than 100,000 followers on Instagram. Her neat, but detailed watercolors capture the moon’s rough texture, Mars’ soft oranges and maroons and Saturn’s wide rings. Baer told Mashable that her planet watercolors draw inspiration from April’s Blood Moon eclipse. More of her planetary art is available on Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter. Mario’s 12 Weirdest Power-Up Suits

, , , ,

The only thing more unmistakable than Mario’s theme song is his signature ensemble — at least, most of the time. The mustachioed plumber is much more than just his overalls. Over the years, Nintendo has provided Mario with a wide array of power-ups that not only amplify gameplay, but also costumed the character in some fun and unusual suits. Only time will tell what the future holds in terms of Mario’s wardrobe. Let’s hope there are even more hilarious garbs to add to his closet. Mario’s 10 Weirdest Power Up Suits 1. Boo Mario From Super Mario Galaxy, Boo Mario appears when Mario grabs a Boo Mushroom, which disguises him as a ghost. He can levitate, become invisible, pass through walls and even make other Boos fall in love with him. Image: Nintendo 2. Propeller Mario This power up from New Super Mario Bros. Wii makes Mario look like Inspector Gadget, but comes in handy during gameplay. Image: Nintendo 3. Boot Mario The Boot Suit from Super Mario Bros. III is a rare power up that got thrown out in later generations of the game. It’s probably not an efficient way of getting around, but it probably gave a lot of gamers some good laughs. Image: Nintendo 4. Flying Squirrel Mario Any time you give Mario a tail, expect something amazing to happen. When the plumber grabs a Super Acorn in New Super Mario Bros. U. he transforms into a puffy flying squirrel. Image: Nintendo 5. Statue Mario Statue Mario may be immobile in this power up, but he’s invincible to enemies. Your argument is invalid, he is a rock. Image: Nintendo 6. Frog Mario Turning Mario into a frog in Super Mario Bros. III allowed him to jump higher and swim underwater. Luckily he didn’t need a kiss from Princess Peach to transform back into himself again. Image: Nintendo 7. Penguin Mario Penguin Mario in New Super Mario Bros. Wii can throw ice balls at his enemies and freeze them. He’s also too adorable for words. Image: Nintendo 8. Tanooki Mario The Tanooki Suit, besides looking like a child’s onesie, was actually extremely useful in Super Mario Bros. III. In the game, you can transform Mario into a rock and drop him on your enemy. Image: Nintendo 9. Bee Mario Bee Mario appears in Super Mario Galaxy. That adorable little stinger is just for show, though. Like all bees, if Mario had used it, he would have died an agonizing death. He’s better off just buzzing around space without stinging anyone. Image: Nintendo 10. Cloud Mario Cloud Mario in Super Mario Galaxy 2 controls the weather by creating clouds that he can use as platforms. The Cloud Flower in the game transform his overalls and hat into something resembling a fully, whipped topping. Image: Nintendo 11. Rainbow Mario Do not adjust your screen. The super special Rainbow Mario in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will make you feel like you might have just consumed some special […]

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTAT_ATF’); }); Typically, the only thing you should put in the microwave is food. But if you put Ivory soap in the microwave for one to two minutes, something amazing happens. Your kids are sure to be amazed by this fun science experiment. Plus, your kitchen will smell like it just took a shower. Watch the video below to find out why this crazy phenomenon happens. After the soap has been microwaved, it’s still totally useable. In fact, you might even conserve more soap by using less in the shower. Pretty cool, huh?! 10 Black Friday Disasters That Will Convince You to Stay Home

, , , , , , , ,

Black Friday Bedlam 1. Waffle Riot We’ve heard of Bread Riots, Pussy Riots and even Quiet Riots. But this, my friends, is a Waffle Riot. Anarchy reigns as this crowd of Walmart shoppers struggles to get their hands on some $2 waffle irons. 2. Towel Tussle Which do you think was worse: the struggle to get these cheap towels or their friends’ and family members’ disappointed looks with cheap towel gifts? 3. Fightin’ Words Historical trends dictate that people who wear leather jackets tend to be much tougher and more intimidating than the rest of us (maybe). Anyway, check out how this guy goes all ad baculum on a crowd of people outside a Best Buy, when they complain about him cutting the line. 4. Pepper Spray Spree Back to Walmart, where a woman in Los Angeles used pepper spray on a crowd of people, including children, to get her hands on a new Xbox. 5. Brawl at the Mall Can we get Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jim Ross to provide some commentary on this royal rumble? The quality of this video is extremely shoddy, but it contains some pretty shocking footage. 6. Dramatization Here’s what the last clip might have looked like if the videographer had a steadier hand. 7. Bloody Grandpa This grandpa is badly bloodied after police officers tackled him. The police believed the man to be a shoplifter. This raw smartphone footage gives an even better look at the incident, but be forewarned, it includes explicit language. 8. The Peanut Gallery You won’t find shocking violence in this video, but check out the crowd of people who aren’t even there to shop, just to film. 9. Urban Outfitters Urban regions are often over-populated, but at midnight on Black Friday, this Urban Outfitters crams in so many people it looks more like a New York tenement house during the 1860s. 10. In Conclusion Here’s a mashup from Jingle All the Way in which Arnold, the great thespian that he is, manages to perfectly capture the plight of the Black Friday shopper. Obama to Visit Baseball Hall of Fame to Promote Tourism

President Barack Obama walks to the pitcher’s mound before throwing a baseball during an unannounced stop to surprise members of the Northwest little league baseball teams at Friendship park in Washington, Monday, May 19, 2014.Image: Pablo Martinez Monsivais/Associated Press President Obama will visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on Thursday to discuss the connection between tourism and jobs. Obama is the first sitting president to visit the Hall of Fame, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. “The fact that a sitting president has not visited here in our first 74-plus years, it was surprising to get the call, but exciting to realize that the chief executive would be delivering a speech on tourism from a place that thrives on it,” Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson said Tuesday. Each year, the baseball museum attracts about 300,000 visitors to upstate New York. In 2012, Obama launched a national travel and tourism strategy, aiming to attract 100 million international tourists each year by 2021. The White House says they are on track to meet that goal; international tourists increased from 55 million in 2009 to 70 million in 2013. That increase comes hand in hand with an economic boost — those 70 million tourists spent $180.7 billion, according to the White House. “When most people think of travel and tourism, they think of national parks,” said Jeff Zients, the director of the National Economic Council Jeff Zients. “They don’t think about jobs and growth, but that’s what tourism represents.” The White House has released a report, Increasing Tourism to Spur Economic Growth, that details the administration’s efforts to increase tourism, and highlights the economic benefits of doing so: Increasing Tourism to Spur Economic Growth “Tourism is America’s most important, and largest, services export: growth in international visitors has created roughly 175,000 American jobs over the past five years,” according to the White House. “Each overseas visitor spends on average $4,500 per visit, at American hotels, shops, restaurants, and other domestic businesses.” Obama will sign a presidential memorandum Thursday to expedite entry times for international travelers, beginning with the 15 largest airports in the U.S. The White House pointed to gains at the Dallas Fort Worth and Chicago O’Hare airports where streamlined processes have reduced wait times. The White House also boasted significant improvements in processing visas for international travelers. “The State Department issued 9.2 million visas in 2013, up 42% since 2010,” according to the White House. “Waiting periods for visas in important markets like Brazil and China have dropped from as high as several months to less than five days on average.” In addition to working on improving the travel experience in the U.S., the administration is working with BrandUSA to encourage travelers from abroad. The president is scheduled to tour the Hall of Fame at 3:25 pm Thursday, and to speak at 3:55 p.m. EST. Check the White House website for the live stream.
