If there’s one place you don’t want to run across a giant, 15-foot alligator, it’s on a beautiful golf course in sunny Florida. Sadly (or awesomely, depending on your feelings about alligators), that’s exactly what happened at Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Palmetto, Florida, yesterday afternoon. Golfer Charles Helms and a friend were enjoying a beautiful day out on the green when the massive reptile made a chilling appearance. Helms was so shocked by the creature’s size that he was convinced that it had to be a prank of some sort. And when you see this footage, you probably won’t believe your eyes either. (via The Guardian) Apparently, this massive gator is seen fairly regularly around Buffalo Creek. One employee even refers to it as the unofficial mascot of the golf course! Kyle Korver’s Atlanta Hawks want you to get your Tinder on. Image: David Tulis/Associated Press While the players on the court try to put it in the hole, aspiring players in the stands will look to score as well. The NBA‘s Atlanta Hawks are hosting “Swipe Right Night” for fans of the team and users of Tinder, the ever-popular dating (read: hooking up) app. At time of this writing, details were scant. But this is a real thing happening on Wednesday. It’s going down, we’re yelling…swipe riiiiiiiiight! Tickets: http://t.co/Y3WapEohHu pic.twitter.com/e8EWjYE3QZ — Atlanta Hawks (@ATLHawks) January 5, 2015 Before you laugh (well, it’s probably too late for that), remember that some professional athletes do use Tinder. Will any Atlanta benchwarmers be swiping from the sidelines? The Eastern Conference-leading Hawks, which includes a player with emoji tattoos, is one of the NBA’s most creative teams on social media. So what appears to be the very first tinder night in pro sports history isn’t all that far-fetched for the team. A team spokesperson told Mashable that more details on just what “Swipe Right Night” entails will arrive soon. We’ll be sure to update this post when we receive them. UPDATE: Here’s more detail from the Hawks, pasted from a Tuesday afternoon press release. The Atlanta Hawks are encouraging fans to use the people-connecting mobile app Tinder to transform Philips Arena into the premier social networking hub in the NBA. “Swipe Right Night” will take place on Jan. 7, when the Eastern Conference-leading Hawks welcome the Memphis Grizzlies to town for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. “Hawks games have always been a great place to meet fun and vibrant people and we think ‘Swipe Right Night’ will take that to a whole new level,” said Hawks CEO Steve Koonin. “We were pioneers of the in-game ‘Kiss Cam’ and are hopeful that we can assist in making some more love connections at our games.” Fans who use the app can simply swipe right to express interest in meeting other Hawks fans while at the venue. If the user gets a like in return … it’s a match. Designated in-arena locations will be provided for Tinder users to meet and will also include the chance to mingle with Jezebel Magazine’s Most Eligible Atlantans, who will also be in attendance. The night’s theme of connecting Hawks fans will include unique in-game promotions and continue when team radio broadcast partner 92-9 The Game treats select fans to a special dating game involving on-air talent. Arnetta Griffin knows exactly how it feels to not have a place to call home. Over 10 years ago, the Kenosha, Wisconsin resident and her young children were evicted after she lost her job. Not being able to afford rent, Griffin and her kids found themselves on the streets, bouncing between homeless shelters. But through it all, Griffin was determined to get back on her feet, even making a promise to God that she’d pay it forward when she was able — and that opportunity came years later in 2017. When Griffin learned of a local homeless shelter closing that spring, she knew it was her chance to help those less fortunate. YouTube / TODAY’S TMJ4 That’s when she started using her social security checks to buy and serve food to the hungry from what she calls “God’s Kitchen of Kenosha.” YouTube / TODAY’S TMJ4 Griffin even goes out of her way to bring food to regulars who don’t always show up. A home-video of something Taylor Swift did last weekend is going viral, and you’ll understand why. She was filmed visiting a young boy battling cancer, named Jordan Lee Nickerson, at Boston Children’s Hospital. This wasn’t any ordinary drop-by. In the video, posted on Facebook by Jordan’s father on Sunday, the celebrity can be seen sitting on the floor with little Jordan and chatting to him about Spider Man and his favorite songs. She then offers to play him a tune on her guitar and encourages him to sing and dance with her. She ends up singing her song ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ while Jordan chimes in for the chorus and dances alongside the 24-year-old singer. It’s just too precious to handle. (Source: Jordan’s Brave Page) Despite Taylor Swift being in it, Jordan is definitely the star of this video! Share this genuinely nice moment with your friends and family below. For many music fans, summer is festival season. There’s nothing quite like gathering with thousands of strangers in beautiful weather to take in some top-shelf tunes. However, those circumstances are also ripe breeding grounds for tragedy, especially when enclosed spaces are involved. We need only look at what happened during the 2010 Love Parade in Germany for proof of that… Since 1989, The Love Parade had taken place in Berlin. In 2010, the organizers attempted to hold the festival in a new city in the west, Duisburg. It was also the first time that the festival was held in an enclosed area. Wikipedia The capacity of the venue was limited to 250,000 people, but officials estimated anywhere between 200,000 and 1.4 million people were expected to attend. Wikipedia Entrance to the festival, which was held in a former freight station, was supposed to begin at 11 a.m. but ended up starting around noon instead. The supposed only way in was through an 800-foot-long ramp. However, police closed the tunnel because of overcrowding and attempted to announce over loudspeakers that newcomers should leave and use a different entrance. However, new people continued to pool into the tunnel causing a stampede. Twenty-one people were killed and 500 suffered injuries. The autopsies on all 21 bodies indicated crushed rib cages as the cause of death. Getty Images “I will never forget the sight. There were all these twisted-up bodies of those who had been crushed. They were lying at the tunnel exit. Their faces had all turned blue,” said one eyewitness who survived being trapped in the tunnel. Wikipedia A Redditor who was at the festival but got out in time described her experience like this: Getty Images It was “one of the most surreal experiences I ever lived through. Thanks to my experience I was able to get out at the peak. My friend was furious at me that I dragged her out and that I behaved the way I did. She thanked me when she saw the bodies lying down.” In response to the tragedy, the organizers of the Love Parade announced that they were retiring the festival. “The Love Parade has always been a joyful and peaceful party, but in future would always be overshadowed by yesterday’s events,” said organizer Rainer Schaller. Getty Images For a taste of what it was like in the final moments before officials began to clear the crowd, you can check out the video below. WARNING: It is very upsetting. I remember when this story broke. I happened to be studying in Germany at the time. It was surreal, to say the least. The only reason for these deaths was poor planning. Everyone was just there to have fun. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/love-parade-disaster/
Normally, dogs sprint for the door when they hear the word “walk,” super excited to go outside for a bit. But not Zeus. He’s much happier when he hears the word “bath.” According to his owner, the stubborn husky loves nothing more than to take baths and play in the water. Often, he even lies in the tub and begs for the water to be turned on. On this occasion, Zeus’ mom made it quite clear to him that it wasn’t bath time and that they were going out for a walk. That’s when the pup threw a full-blown toddler-style temper tantrum, full of whimpers and howls. It’s okay, Zeus, I feel your pain. Maybe if you make sure to get extra dirty during your walk you’ll get that bath! Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/husky-bathtub/
