Neighbors Adopt 4 Brothers So They Can Grow Up Together

One of my favorite sayings is: “Family isn’t always blood.” Here at Wimp, we’ve seen just how true this is time and time again. There was the detective who adopted two abused brothers, the news anchor who couldn’t rest until one young man found a forever home, and a 16-year-old who found her family after 10 years in the system. Each story is different, but every one of them proves that when it comes to family, biology isn’t always a deciding factor.

When Julia Washington and her husband decided to adopt three young brothers, they knew their family was in for some huge changes. The couple already had two daughters, and one of the brothers had cerebral palsy, and would have special needs for the rest of his life. Then, the boys’ social worker called with some shocking news – a fourth brother, 17-month-old Elijah, had been located. If the Washington family did not adopt him, Elijah could end up thousands of miles away from his brothers.

The thought of the boys growing up separately was just unfathomable. Somehow, some way, they had to stay together. Julia called her friend and neighbor, Jay Houston for advice. Jay had been adopted herself, and was now the mother of six children, four of whom had been adopted. The solution that they found might be unusual, but that doesn’t make them any less of a family. Best of all, the boys will get to grow up together
