This Spanish Street Performer Has The Most Beautiful, Soothing Voice

, , , , , , , , , , ,

When it comes to street performers taking on classical songs, it can be a huge hit or a monumental miss. This lady was filmed singing “Ave Maria” on the street in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and her performance was definitely in the former category. It’s by no means an easy song to sing, but her soothing voice does Franz Schubert’s famous piece stunning justice. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); Not only does she have an angelic singing voice, but her mandolin accompaniment puts the performance on an entirely new level. What a beautiful rendition of an already beautiful song. This certainly isn’t what you’d expect to hear from a street performer, and that just makes it so much better. Madonna ‘Turns Up the Radio’ In New Music Video

, , , , , ,

The seemingly ageless Madonna released the music video for her new single “Turn Up The Radio” on Monday. The track is from her latest album, MDNA, which was released back in March. The Queen of Pop premiered the video on her Vevo channel. One of the advantages of online distribution is that Madge can release the “explicit” version of the track. Shot in Florence, Italy, the video is vintage Madonna — dancing in a souped-up convertible while flanked by beautiful men. Let us know what you think of the video in the comments. Aereo Gets Early Win in Lawsuit Against Broadcasters

, , , , , ,

Cord-cutting startup Aereo got an early win Wednesday in its on-going lawsuits with major broadcasters including ABC, NBC and CBS. A federal judge in the Second District of New York denied broadcasters’ request for a preliminary injunction against the New York-based startup. Aereo argued that such an injunction would essentially put it out of business. In his decision, Judge Alison Nathan writes of the litigious broadcasters that, “although [the plaintiffs] have demonstrated that they face irreparable harm, they have not demonstrated that the balance of hardships decidedly tips in their favor. “As such”, Nathan says, “the Court denies Plaintiffs motion for a preliminary injunction.” In a statement, Aereo CEO and Founder Chet Kanojia said: “Today’s decision shows that when you are on the right side of the law, you can stand up, fight the Goliath and win. This isn’t just a win for Aereo, it’s also a significant win for consumers who are demanding more choice and flexibility in the way they watch television. We said from the start that we believed that a full and fair airing of the issues would reveal that Aereo’s groundbreaking technology falls squarely within the law. We are grateful to the court for its thoughtful and measured approach to this matter. Today’s decision should serve as a signal to the public that control and choice are moving back into the hands of the consumer – that’s a powerful statement.” Aereo is a startup that offers users access to over-the-air television from their computers, phones, tablets and connected TV devices. The beauty of Aereo is that it works outside of the house. Users just have to login to the service and they can access live television, as well as any programs they have recorded from a cloud-based DVR. To get around some of the potential legal challenges involved with sharing broadcast signals, Aereo has employed a unique technical solution: each user has access to an individual micro-antenna that acts just like the type of antenna you might put in your own home or apartment. By limiting the antennas to one per user, Aereo has a legal argument against the local and major broadcast networks that want to shut the service down. Still, the broadcasters are suing Aereo. And despite the preliminary injunction, this battle isn’t going to end any time soon. We’re still in the very early stages of this case. What makes the Aereo case important is that it has the potential to get hard answers for a number of important legal issues facing the future of broadcasting. Whether Aereo wins or loses, it’s a case worth following. As a fan (and subscriber) of Aereo’s service (I am also a cable subscriber), I’m relieved that for now I can continue to access live TV from my iPad. Let us know your thoughts on the Aereo lawsuit in the comments. Aereo Ruling Preliminary Injunction Denied Read more: http://mashable.com/2012/07/11/aereo-injunction-denied/

New ‘Super Smash Bros.’ is the fastest selling Wii U game ever

, , ,

Image: Nintendo The newest incarnation of Super Smash Bros. is the fastest selling game on Nintendo’s Wii U console, the company reported Tuesday, with almost half a million copies sold in the first three days of release in the United States. Nintendo said 490,000 physical and digital copies of its mash-up character fighting game were sold between Nov. 21 and Nov. 23. Previously, Mario Kart 8 was the fastest selling Wii U game, and though Nintendo didn’t disclose how many copies it sold in the first three days, it did sell 2.28 million copies worldwide during its first two months of release. Nintendo still comes in at a solid No. 3 in the console race. Its investor relations website lists 7.12 million Wii U units sold worldwide since the console’s launch two years ago; Sony’s PlayStation 4 passed 10 million in sales after just eight months on the market, and the Xbox One was nearing that number, Microsoft recently stated. Though the previous-generation Wii console was a massive commercial success, selling more than a 100 million units, Nintendo hasn’t even matched the sales pace for its last unpopular console, the GameCube. But Super Smash Bros. Melee was the best selling game for the GameCube, so Nintendo is likely betting on the franchise fans to drive console sales. Super Smash Bros. launched in North America first. It will be released in Europe on Nov. 28, Australia on Nov. 29 and Japan on Dec. 6. It seems Nintendo prioritized the U.S. release to get in before Black Friday sales this week. Trains Screaming Like Humans Are Somehow The Funniest And Most Horrifying Thing Ever

, , , , , , , , , ,

There are some things on the Internet that are best left unexplained. To ask why YouTuber theseheavenlybodies would insert panicked voices over several speeding trains would only lead one down a rabbit hole of more unanswerable questions…spiraling into insanity. All you need to know is that it looks like the trains are screaming, and it’s simultaneously hilarious and frightening. I can’t deny that I’ve watched this video at least 15 times now, and each time I get more confused. The best thing to do is to embrace the chaos. One YouTube commenter described it as “Thomas and friends on mushrooms.” Seems about right. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/screaming-trains/
