The worst part about working is always the commute. Sitting in traffic is horrible, and taking public transit is always enough to give you a headache. But to get to their job, these workers only have to travel 1,500 feet…off the ground. Someone has to fix all of those huge TV towers, right? Watch as one brave worker climbs to the top of one of these structures, dragging his 30-pound bag of tools along with him all the way. Full disclosure: I work from home and I’m still feeling pretty ho-hum about the commute from my bed to my desk. As a lazy person who also has a pretty significant fear of heights, this video is a nightmare on so many levels. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/tower-climbing/
Every culture has their own sacred death rituals, but some are far more frightening than others. Take the Torajan people, for example. On the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, dead bodies are seen very differently than they are in the States. Corpses aren’t actually considered to be dead until a water buffalo is sacrificed to accompany them into the afterlife. It takes years for some families to be able to afford the expensive ceremony, so many keep their loved ones inside their homes until they can. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); But even after their deceased relatives are properly buried, some families decide to keep their memory alive by digging the bodies up in a bizarre celebration. The residents of Toraja proudly display the dead as part of their Ma’nene ritual. Every year, the villagers dig up their late family members in order to honor them. YouTube / National Geographic googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); }); The decaying bodies don’t spook them at all — they prefer to see them so they can mourn. YouTube / National Geographic They carefully clean their ancestors to preserve their dignity. YouTube / National Geographic googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); }); Then the corpses are actually groomed and dressed up. YouTube / National Geographic And the families even pose with them for photos as if they were still alive. YouTube / National Geographic Though they are undeniably creepy, some of the bodies have pleasant looks on their faces like they approve of the ritual. YouTube / Mo10ta But others are just terrifying. YouTube / Mo10ta These people see all of this as a beautiful process, but it’s more than a little disturbing. Would you ever consider going to a celebration like this? Me neither. I’m all for expressing your culture, but this is way, way too morbid for me. I don’t know about you, but when I find myself stuck in a room with a doll, I constantly look over my shoulder to see if it’s moving. Well, The Lineup and Destination America have teamed up to either quell our fears or justify them by posting a live feed of a doll that’s supposedly haunted. The story behind the doll, which goes by the name of Ann, is that it is inhabited by the spirit of a 13-year-old girl with the same name. The real Ann died from tuberculosis at Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky, which is known to be one of the most haunted hospitals in America. A former nurse at the facility, Lois, claimed that she was followed home by the spirits of children after they passed. She kept a collection of dolls to anchor their souls. The story only seems to be loosely factual, but who knows? Maybe Ann will speak up and give credence to the myth. Watch the stream to find out! People who have seen Ann in person say that you can hear her cry. There have also been reports of her raising her hand. Tell me if you see Ann move so we can throw the doll onto a fire together and rid the planet of this cursed thing forever. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/ann-live-feed/
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); If there is one species that Earth’s oceans are abundant with, it’s jellyfish. Thanks to climate change and the general warming of the planet, our oceans are becoming a much more hospitable place for all sorts of jellyfish. However, there will always be those more mysterious and elusive sub-species. Consider the stygiomedusa gigantea. It is a species of giant jellyfish that is among the rarest in the world. Over the past 110 years, there have only been 115 sightings. According to those who have studied it, stygiomedusa gigantea is one of the largest invertebrate predators in the world. While its sightings have been rare, luckily a few of the recent ones have been by unmanned ROV vehicles, which allow us to get up close with these terrifying, majestic creatures. Well, this is going to give me nightmares for a year. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/stygiomedusa-gigantea/
A Boeing 767 can carry upwards of 375 passengers on any given flight. It’s a large, wide-bodied passenger plane that was invented for the sole purpose of carrying more people to their destinations quicker. But when this Boeing 767’s landing gear failed, the crew had to prepare for an emergency landing that’ll have you on the edge of your seat. Luckily, the 231 passengers were in the hands of a 30-year veteran pilot, Tadeusz Wrona. He expertly communicated the situation to air traffic controllers and flew the 767 to safety without injuring a single person aboard the plane. Watch the whole thing happen! (via Reddit) Everyone got off the plane unharmed and the touchdown seemed to be relatively smooth…as far as emergency landings go. I bet quite a few people on that plane were pretty apprehensive when they took their next flight. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/emergency-plane-landing/
Going to the moon is a goal for almost every astronaut, and in the late 1960s, humans accomplished that goal for the first time. It was a monumental technological breakthrough. Many people thought that we would never do it, but in the heat of the Cold War, America made it to the moon. On our journeys since, some irregularities have occurred. Take these sounds, for example. Bizarre noises were heard on the dark side of the moon, and as you’ll hear in the video below, they were absolutely chilling. (via Unexplained Mysteries) If that doesn’t give you the willies, I don’t know what will. I have to hand it to those brave astronauts for going up there. Space travel is clearly creepy. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); When it comes to UFOs, I’m not really sure what I believe. While I certainly think it’s possible that some form of life exists on other planets, I also know that it’s really easy to doctor a video and then present it as evidence of an extraterrestrial sighting. This is why I’m torn about what really happened in this recent footage. On April 11, 2016, people driving on a highway in Guangzhou, China, suddenly stopped their cars and rushed outside to record a strange flying object with their phones. Do you think this is proof that UFOs exist? This wasn’t the only supposed sighting in Guangzhou. In 2011, the below footage emerged online, claiming to be one of the clearest videos of a UFO. However, it was quickly proven to be fake. (via Mysterious Universe) Nowadays, it seems like there’s a way to fabricate practically anything. But who knows what’s really out there? I sure don’t. While giving a speech to the press in Thrissur back in 2007, Indian writer and academic M. N. Vijayan — also known as Vijayan Mash — suddenly stopped talking and made a chilling face. It was a look that unfortunately signaled the end of his life. The publicly recorded death of Vijayan is surrounded by controversy to this day, since friends blame Professor Sukumar Azhikode for bringing him to the conference even though he knew that the writer was having heart troubles. Below are the final moments of Vijayan Mash’s life. Following his collapse, Vijayan was taken to a hospital in Thrissur. Oddly enough, the hospital they chose to transport him to was far from the location of the conference, leading to further suspicion of foul play. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/vijayan-mash/
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTAT_ATF’); }); Last year we introduced you to the horror that is the horsehair worm. It’s a nasty little parasite that likes to infest insects like roaches, crickets, grasshoppers, and beetles. Once inside, the parasite alters the creature’s brain chemistry and makes it commit suicide in a body of water, which is the only place the worm can breed. Occasionally, you might kill a bug that was already carrying a horsehair worm. When that happens, you often have a front row seat to some top-notch grossness. Watch and learn how you kill these terrible creepy-crawlies. That is probably the grossest thing I think I’ve ever seen. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/cricket-nightmare/
Sometimes in life, there’s a camera in the right place at the right time. As it turns out, this video shows us one of those instances. When a young woman decided to record herself microwaving an egg for all the Internet to see, something happened that made us burst out laughing (mainly due to secondhand embarrassment). Please don’t try this nonsense at home. Yeah…I don’t think she’ll be doing that again anytime soon. Just a hunch. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/microwave-egg/
