Long before the iPod era, cassette tapes were all the rage. The ability to enjoy Hall & Oates while strutting the sidewalk in your new acid-washed jean jacket was nothing short of revolutionary. Now, obviously, that time has passed. M-I-E, an animation and design studio, created a video that pays special tribute to the cassette tape — both its life and eventual demise. The awesomely stylish video, titled “Jammed,” was made entirely using stop-motion and 3D techniques. It follows a View-Master-headed robot as it attempts to clean up an apocalyptic world taken over by tangled, cassette magnetic tape. Watch it for yourself above. The college basketball season officially got underway this weekend with the start of fall practice, and University of Florida opponents should be very, very, afraid. The reason? Six-foot-nine, 249-lb. Patric Young, who spent the offseason doing the most hardcore workouts we’ve ever seen from a basketball player. As seen in the video above, those workouts included flipping giant tires, using rope to pull small cars while seated on the ground and pushing pickup trucks around campus with nothing but his bare hands. Young gave fans a look at his grueling 3-minute routine by using Twitter to share the above video during the offseason. The clip has bubbled up again on the social web over the past few days thanks to a mention in an SI.com pre-season power ranking, and with the start of college hoops season, it only seemed right share this with the non-sports world as well. Basketball-obsessed teens have been doing it forever: Creeping up on unsuspecting friends during everyday life to throw down vicious imaginary dunks. But they haven’t always had social media to record their posterizing pranks for posterity’s sake. That’s the genesis of a hilarious sports trend called “Dunk Cam” that’s sprung up on Vine and other social networks this summer. Its roots can likely be best traced to a GIF from a high school ambush that went viral in May, and it’s only picked up steam as of late. Hallways, locker rooms, doorways — no place is safe. But there’s a problem. Until now, Dunk Cam videos have emerged clip by clip, ephemeral mini-doses of basketball comedy that bubble up then fade into the digital ether.
