Personally, I can’t stand the sound of leaf blowers. I mean, even the people who work with them on a daily basis wear headphones so they can block out their ungodly noise. But put one of the unnecessarily loud machines in front of Fiesta the llama at The Houston Zoo? Well, you can forget about any other plans you had for the day. Every morning when zookeepers clean out the stalls, the fluffy lady demands that they give her some of that sweet, sweet leaf-blowing air. “Oh. OH! Get my tum.” YouTube / The Houston Zoo You do you, Fiesta. I’ll just be here watching with my earplugs in. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/leaf-blower-llama/
The old saying goes, “when one door closes, another door opens,” and while this may be true in most cases, someone forgot to mention it to these unfortunate pups. While dogs may be man’s best friends and some of the smartest animals out there, one thing our doggy pals haven’t mastered is the concept of the almighty door. In the battle of dog versus door, let’s just say the results are equal parts disheartening and hilarious. If you thought you were having a pretty bad day, here are 21 dogs that just really, really cannot door. 1. He’s been burned by a door one too many times to not be THIS cautious. 2. “Excuse me human, there’s a door in the way… oh wait, nevermind.” 3. After watching his doggy brother hurt himself, this dog’s thinking, “step aside, let me show you how it’s done.” Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/dogs-vs-doors/

We all know this saying: “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a night. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat forever.” But as it turns out, the scope of that adage is a bit narrow. That’s because this golden retriever named Rani loves to fish, too! You can see her in action in the video below. She uses bait and everything! Rani has used this method to capture dozens of fish and turtles over the years. There’s something pretty adorable about a self-sufficient pup, am I right? Image: Sony Online Entertainment Massively multiplayer online games have gotten a bad rep over the years, but those who play them know the joys of an immersive, adventurous world. Thanks to a sweeping scale, many MMOs can offer players whatever experience they want, be it raiding, questing or battling. A quick look at the titles due for release in 2014 show the genre is still alive and well, with fresh ideas and ever-improving hardware. To add to the excitement, many studios are giving gamers behind-the-scenes looks at their creation progress. Thanks to beta sessions, developer chats and lots of trailers, the landscape for MMOs looks very promising. Here are seven new games slated for 2014 launch that are taking risks and pushing the definitions of what an MMO can be. In other words, plan to lose all your free time diving into these fun, creative worlds. 1. Elder Scrolls Online Bethesda Softworks has maintained a cult following for its Elder Scrolls series for years. These sweeping sagas let players roam across various regions of Tamriel, learning magecraft, joining the Dark Brotherhood or just harassing city guards who took arrows in the knee. That open-world mentality seems like a natural fit for an MMO. With Elder Scrolls Online, players will get a chance to wander the snowy mountains of Skyrim and the mysterious Black Marsh. Bethesda has a reputation for great storytelling in its games, so expectations are high for the online game. It is set in a time before the RPG games, so expect to see different struggles between the races and lots of new villains to take out. The latest betas have been making big strides in polish; the art style will not disappoint franchise fans. 2. EverQuest Next Landmark The original EverQuest title was one of the early entries in the MMO genre, and it’s getting a long-awaited overhaul. Some elements of the upcoming EverQuest Next will probably look familiar from those first days, but David Georgeson and his team promise a revolutionary approach to the game style. Although EverQuest Next probably won’t hit shelves for at least another year, we’ll get our hands on EverQuest Next Landmark quite soon. Landmark is a blank canvas that gives players powerful in-game tools to build just about anything they can dream up. These creations in the game will be available for purchase by EverQuest Next players, through the Player Studio. Sony Online Entertainment will take a cut, but the players with the most impressive items will also pocket some cash for their inventions. EverQuest Landmark is winding down a promising alpha stage, and we’re hoping to see Landmark’s official launch at some point in 2014. 3. World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor It’s not exactly a new game, but the new expansion for World of Warcraft marks a big change in the granddaddy of MMOs. On the visual side, the Blizzard team is revamping the player character models to bring the nearly decade-old game more in line with contemporary graphics […]
You probably know someone who had head lice as a kid, or maybe you had the displeasure of experiencing an infestation yourself. Having these insects crawling through your hair definitely isn’t any walk in the park, but trust me, it’s much better than what this poor patient went through. Their eyelids must have itched pretty badly, because when this person went to a doctor, a close-up examination of their lashes revealed phthiriasis palpebrarum or pediculosis ciliarum, otherwise known as an infestation of lice in the eyelashes. Here’s the nasty culprit, found making itself at home in the patient’s eyelashes. While these insects aren’t dangerous, they aren’t exactly pleasant to deal with, either. YouTube / Zeenos TV For one, they feed off the blood and skin of their victims. They’re also super contagious and can cause extreme itching of the eyelid, small red spots, and debris around eyelashes. YouTube / Zeenos TV But perhaps the most fun (please note my sarcasm) part of all is that where there’s one, there are plenty of others, including nits and eggs that hatch six to 10 days after they’re laid. Hope For Paws received a call about a homeless pit bull in need of help. The dog was abandoned by his family after their home burned down. Weeks went by and they never came back for the poor pit bull, who never strayed far from the scorched house, waiting and hoping they would soon return. Thankfully for the abandoned dog, Eldad Hagar of Hope For Paws was there to help. After feeding the friendly but starving dog a hamburger, Eldad put a leash around his new friend and brought him back to the shelter. The dog, now named Popeye, patiently awaits for a new family to love him. (Source: Eldad Hagar) This beautiful dog has such a sweet temperament and personality. How someone coldly leave a dog like that on the streets? It breaks my heart. Read more: http://viralnova.com/pit-bull-house-fire-rescue/
Very few people have the time or resources to save animals in need. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t do something for them. Heroic animal rescue organizations like Hope For Paws exist to help animals in need when others can’t. A woman named Sandy Mays discovered a dog in a condition that’ll make you feel ill. The pit bull was intensely shy of strangers, she had a severe eye injury and tumors in her face. Savannah, as she was later named, was in desperate need of a rescue. Sandy wasn’t able to help her, but she had to do something. So, Sandy called her friend Lauren. Lauren called Lisa. Then, Lisa helped enlist Eldad from Hope For Paws in a heartwarming rescue. Savannah was in pain. Hope For Paws Not only that, but she was terrified of humans. Hope For Paws Luckily, Eldad was able to get close enough to touch her. Hope For Paws You need to see this touching rescue, and how it all ended, for yourself. By the end of this video, you may be in tears. Savannah transformed from disfigured and frightened dog into something beautiful. Watch her rescue: Savannah was lucky that so many people worked together to find a way to help her. Hope For Paws Help Savannah find a home by sharing this story with everyone you know. Hope For Paws Source: Hope For Paws This poor girl was only able to receive the surgery she needed thanks to the donations that people have generously given to Hope For Paws. If you’d like to help Savannah find a home, please share her story. Or, if you’d like to help other dogs in need, support a local shelter or rescue like Hope For Paws (click here to visit their Donations page). Let this video be an inspiration for you. “Our hope is that people will watch Savannah’s video and see that they too have the ability to help those without a voice. Whether they foster, volunteer, donate, rescue, advocate, share or adopt… each of us has a way to effect pet overpopulation. And by supporting Hope For Paws in any of these ways, they are giving hope for paws.” – Annie, Hope For Paws There are so many dogs in the world like Savannah, mistreated and alone. If you’re a fan of genuinely creepy horror films, then you’ve probably heard about the upcoming movie from director Robert Eggers called The Witch. So far, the reviews for the film have been stellar, and audiences are delighted by the genuinely unnerving horror of The Witch. When the credits roll and the lights go up, most people believe that everything they saw was simply a work of fiction and they have nothing to worry about, right? Well, not so fast… This week, Eggers sat down to talk about his new film and exactly how he researched it. iStock As it turns out, the film was inspired by history, not fiction. “In the early modern period, the real world and the fairy tale world — for everyone but the extreme intelligentsia — were the same thing. People really believed that the old lady down the lane that they were calling a ‘witch’ was actually a fairy-tale ogress, capable of doing the most horrible things,” he told the blog io9. iStock “It was very easy to dig into that and be obsessed with trying to bring the audience back to the 17th century and show them a Puritan’s nightmare. I wanted to bring them back to the time when a witch was a really powerful thing, and not a cheesy plastic Halloween costume,” said Eggers. Eggers said he also dug into writings from the time to find dialogue for the movie. iStock “As I was reading, I would find sentences and phrases that worked and I would write them down constantly. Then I would organize them into different situations where they might be used,” said Eggers. “Earlier drafts of the script were these monstrous, cannibalized versions of other people’s stuff in a weird collage, which then got shaped into something that was more mine. However, there are some things that are absolutely intact. A lot of the things the children say when they’re possessed are supposedly things that children actually said when they were possessed, and so on.” Needless to say, all of this meticulous research has paid off in a big way. It’s looking like The Witch might just be the creepiest movie of 2016. Judge for yourself in the trailer below. (via: Daily Grail) Personally, I can’t wait to check out this film despite the fact that I know it will scare the living daylights out of me. It’s all part of the job I suppose… Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/folk-tale-witches/
Just the smell of chalk brings me back to afternoons on the playground drawing up four square courts and hopscotch games. But those days are long gone and I still have tons of chalk strewn around my home. If you’re in the same boat, here are just a few of the ways you can reuse the stuff. 1. Temporarily dye your hair…here’s how. 2. Ants and other bugs hate talcum powder, a key ingredient in chalk, so you can draw lines in parts of your home that are susceptible to insects. Tickled Mummy Club 3. If your keys aren’t going into their locks without a fight, rub the edges with some chalk and they’ll slide in easily. Flickr / Alper Çuğun 4. Chalk off dangerous zones in your yard — like the area around an outdoor grill — so children know where they shouldn’t go. Flickr / Dennis Jarvis 5. Want to plan your layout without doing the heavy lifting just yet? Chalk out where you want to put things to make sure everything fits. Flickr / Matthew Paul Argall 6. You can color your own candles with crushed-up chalk. 7. Keep a pouch of chalk in your clothing drawers and closets to keep moisture out and freshness in. Pinterest 8. Keep your tools in tip-top shape by storing them with some chalk. It will keep moisture from rusting your wrenches and other metal items. Flickr / Erich Stüssi 10. The same concept applies to preventing your silverware from tarnishing. Just wrap some chalk in a cheesecloth and store it with your flatware. Flickr / Deidre Woollard 11. You can also pop some chalk in with your jewelry to keep things tarnish-free. Flickr / Joe Flintham 12. Give your nails a makeover by rubbing a nail brush with some white chalk. Gently sweep under your nails. The brush will dust away dirt while the chalk gives your nails a bright, white finish. Flickr / Pat (Cletch) Williams 13. Small scratches on your walls can easily be covered up with chalk that matches the paint color.
