No one knows how long this elderly dog had been stuck in a sewage gutter before a kind soul fished him out. Sadly, though, that wasn’t the end of his hardship. The poor boy suffered a severe gash on his hindquarters and was in so much pain that he couldn’t stand. If the amazing people from Animal Aid Unlimited hadn’t come to rescue him, there’s no telling if he would have ever moved from where he was left. I was cheering in my seat when he was lifted up and stood on his own for the first time! If you don’t know about all the wonderful work Animal Aid Unlimited is doing for strays in India, find out here. And please consider donating to their cause here. Integrating cows into the herd is usually a pretty straightforward task — rather unexciting, even. The animals meet and get along instantly because cows love meeting new friends. So when Panda (the black-and-white bovine in the below video) and Jazzy (the smaller brown one) were let loose to introduce themselves to a herd of cows, their owner didn’t think much would happen. But boy, was she wrong! Who knew cows could be this happy, let alone run that fast! YouTube Rescuing farmed animals from potential slaughter, Animal Place provides cows and other creatures with a sanctuary where they can always live free. Which in the case of these happy-go-lucky guys, seems like a pretty great reason to celebrate! Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/meeting-cows/
Firefighters put their lives on the line each and every day so that we can stay safe in our homes. It’s so heartbreaking to see these men and women lose their lives and sustain devastating injuries while doing such selfless work. One man who knows that all too well is Mississippi-based firefighter Patrick Hardison. While responding to a call for a massive house fire back in 2001, the roof caved in on him, and the scalding materials melted straight through his mask. The resulting injury changed his life forever. Hardison — always a kind and gentle family man — decided to dedicate his life to helping others. NYU Langone via IFL Science But on that fateful day in 2001, he sustained an injury that totally changed the course of his life. He suffered massive burns that effectively stripped away his entire face. Not only did the wound wreak havoc on his physical health, but it also destroyed his self confidence. YouTube / NYU Langone Medical Center His emotional health was so shattered that he couldn’t even bear to look at himself in the mirror. One horrible accident robbed him of his personal identity. With support from his family and the tireless physicians at NYU’s Langone Medical Center, Hardison underwent the most intense facial transplant procedure in medical history. YouTube / NYU Langone Medical Center The operation took the team of 100 physicians and nurses 26 hours to complete, but fortunately, the strong guy made it through the entire ordeal without any complications. YouTube / NYU Langone Medical Center After 14 years, Patrick Hardison was able to see his reconstructed face for the first time in what proved to be a powerful moment for everyone involved. YouTube / NYU Langone Medical Center As he recovers, firefighters who were with him at the time of the accident come and spend time with him every week. While Hardison needs time to adjust to his new face, he’s so thankful to his loved ones and his dedicated medical team for helping him start this exciting new chapter. YouTube / NYU Langone Medical Center To hear more of Hardison’s incredible story, check out the video below: (via IFL Science) It’s absolutely incredible to see what physicians can do today to improve the lives of those who protect us. When traveling, it’s best not to keep valuable items in a locked suitcase. Your passport, credit cards, cash, and other important items should stay on your person (or at least close by). Some people believe that locking them in a suitcase is a safe alternative…but it isn’t. Even if you have a strong lock, the suitcase can be breached with relative ease. Your locked suitcase isn’t as safe as you think. Yet another example of how quickly a zip breach can occur: Expensive new luggage and gear may offer safer alternatives…but it’s best to not take anything for granted (especially if you’re traveling overseas). Traveler beware! Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/break-into-suitcase/

We all know how extremely busy we can get. Unfortunately, most of us are so caught up in work and daily tasks that we don’t realize how quickly time flies by. As our lives become more demanding, it’s harder to find the time to visit family members who don’t live nearby. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); This woman knows exactly what I mean. She went years without seeing her brother. Because of his busy life in a different state and the fact that she is a single mother who isn’t able to take time off work, they spent 24 years apart. But when she came home one day to see her daughter, she got the best surprise ever. I can’t imagine how amazing this moment was for them. How sweet was that? Even though they were separated for so long, it’s awesome that they were finally able to reunite. I think we should all go and call (or visit!) our siblings or family members. I know I’m going to! If you’ve ever visited the Lincoln Memorial, you know that it can be a moving experience. Standing in the presence of American history in such a massive space is pretty humbling as it is, which makes what this woman just did even more incredible. As tourists crowded around the famous statue, singer G. Star Swain decided to take advantage of the acoustics and treat everyone to a special performance. And she couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate song. I hope something like this happens next time I make my way to D.C. This is an experience those tourists will never forget. One of the biggest pains in the butt during the winter is shoveling snow. It’s such a hassle, and no one wants to do it. But this disabled war veteran didn’t let that stop him from shoveling snow for himself — and his neighbors! He used his high-powered wheelchair and a connected snow plow to get it done. That’s awesome! Even after coming home, this vet lives to help those in need. Absolutely amazing. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/snow-plow/
