Mother’s Day has come and gone, but this thoughtful gift from four adorable Icelandic boys will surely last a lifetime. Gísli is an orthodontist and a father of four, so when Mother’s Day rolled around this year, he decided to combine two of his great loves into one epic gift for his wife. He filled a bucket with impression material that is most often used for creating molds of teeth and had his sons dip their hands in it. After 10 minutes of them all keeping as still as possible (the youngest did surprisingly well at staying patient), they removed their hands and were left with a mold. Gísli poured a stone mixture into it…when you see the end result, you’ll be amazed! This is hands down the most unique and creative Mother’s Day gift I’ve ever seen…or is it hands up? Getting ready for a new school year can be a challenge for most parents, but while many think getting up at 7 a.m. to see your kids off to the bus is rough, it’s nothing compared to what this father does. Jose Luis Dominguez is determined to give his two kids — seven-year-old Luis and eight-year-old Kayla — the best possible chance at a good education, something he never had the opportunity to get. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); The three live in Mexico but through sheer determination Dominguez managed to get his two kids enrolled in a school in South Texas, just across the street from the restaurant he works at. Every morning and afternoon, the trio make the trek across the Hidalgo International Bridge, over the Rio Grande, to and from home. The 32-year-old says life is ugly across the border, with kids frequently being abducted by drug cartels. He feels a lot safer knowing his little ones are in school in the U.S. while he’s at work. Talk about going the extra mile for your kids. For Dominguez, a quality education away from drug violence is reason enough to wake up every morning and hike across an international border in the hopes it will get his children walking on a better path. The 10-year-old was placed in foster care with nothing more than a stuffed Easter bunny to remember her by. Lemmond thought her past had been forgotten. Then, a strange box arrived on the porch of her Colorado home. Inside were photos, her birth certificate, and, most incredibly, letters her mom had written just weeks before she died. While moving, the executor of her mother’s estate found the keepsakes and forwarded them along. Watch as she finally reads one of the letters her mother wrote her over two decades ago. Lemmond told NBC News: “After my mom passed away, I was shipped all over the country. From Washington States to Texas, to Louisiana, to Texas, back to Washington, back to Texas — in and out of state care — foster care. These are a glimpse into my past that I’ve sorely longed for, for over two decades now.” Read More: Airman’s ‘Engagement Game’ Turns Out To Be A Huge Surprise From His Fiancée The letters might be 23 years late, but every word still means so much. One of the absolute worst parts about driving or taking public transportation is getting caught in rush hour. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost lost it after getting stuck in slow-moving traffic. However, I’m well-aware that it could get much, much worse in different places — especially Japan. Referring to Tokyo subway passengers as sardines wouldn’t be any stretch of the imagination, because they pack themselves so tightly in the trains that the doors sometimes won’t even close. This would be a nightmare for anyone with claustrophobia. Read More: This Is How They Get Everyone On The Subway In Japan…And It’s Crazy Well, that definitely puts things in perspective. I’m going to think twice before I ever complain about traffic again! Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/tokyo-rush-hour/
Over the last few months, floods have been a deadly, though common, occurrence throughout India. Already killing at least 70 people, they’ve proven deadly to man, and if it weren’t for the courage of one mother dog, several puppies would have perished, too. When floodwaters rose in Chennai, one stray dog got separated from her babies. Watch as she swims through a garbage-infested river in an effort to find and save the pups. (via Metro) Watching from above, the onlookers no doubt wished they could have helped this mom. But after she helped her first little one, they could tell she had everything under control — according to witnesses she saved three more! Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/dog-river-stranded/
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTAT_ATF’); }); A while back we brought you a story about an amazing tap dancing seagull in Wales. Well, the little guy is still dancing like no one is watching! The feathered fella seems to be quite the celebrity these days and is always willing to do a little jig for a yummy snack. Fun fact: Seagulls actually developed this ability to “tap dance” because the sound of their feet hitting the ground resembles raindrops, which brings out the worms. So, basically, this clever bird is using his tap dancing skills to get his supper even when there is nothing but pavement and concrete around. All I could think about while watching this was, “He’s a maniac, maniac on the floor! And he’s dancing like he’s never danced before!” Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/tap-dancing-seagull/
Rattlesnakes are considered some of the most sophisticated creatures in the world, and they have the tails to prove it. Scientists believe these defense mechanisms to be highly sophisticated warning signals, which makes rattlesnakes uniquely terrifying. It’s a one-of-a-kind trait that not many people understand, so let’s take a closer look at what’s really going on when these serpents defend themselves. The noises that they generate ward off predators. Their tails rattle about 50 times per second, and they can keep that up for hours on end if necessary. Imgur / Daedalus031 The rattles are made of keratin, and every time snakes molt, their tails get a bit longer. When rattlesnakes travel, they keep their tails up to avoid damaging them, since they rely on those noisemakers for survival. Reddit / GoldenWizard The guys in this video wanted to learn more, so they went ahead and cut a rattlesnake’s tail open. And there you have it, folks. It’s never a bad idea to learn about creatures that pose a threat to humans. You never know when you’ll hear that telltale rattle. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/rattlesnake/
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); Sexual assault on college campuses is a major issue in America. In fact, one in five women report being sexually assaulted at least once before age 25. When you add in the estimated 35 percent of rapes that go unreported, it stands to reason that the true number of college campus assaults is even higher. While some try to pin the blame on what victims were wearing or how much they had to drink, rape is not about uncontrolled sexual urge and it certainly is no one’s fault but the assailant’s. It is a power play meant to demean and belittle victims. There, members of the Delta Upsilon fraternity have been accused of giving pledges date rape drugs to incapacitate and sexually assault women. Facebook / Delta Upsilon – Missouri Chapter The allegations started coming out after a wild party in September sent several people to the hospital with alcohol poisoning. Reportedly, the drugs were handed out as part of hazing ceremonies during Greek Week.
