This Guy Somehow Managed To Create A Mini Nuclear Reaction In His Parents’ Yard

, , , , , , , , , , , ,

You might not know the name David Hahn, but back in 1995, his fascination with nuclear power nearly triggered a radiological disaster in his Michigan hometown. As a teen, Hahn became fixated with the idea of building a nuclear reactor in his mother’s backyard shed — and he actually got pretty darn close to accomplishing it. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); To amass the power needed for a nuclear reactor, Hahn took to scraping radioactive materials from common household items like smoke detectors. With his tools in hand, the kid began construction of his reactor. However, things did not go as planned (of course) and Hahn quickly tried to disassemble the reactor before it blew. Despite not creating the reactor, Hahn still managed to contaminate his mother’s yard with radiation. It was so bad, the EPA had to come clear it up. Here’s a mini-documentary looking at Hahn’s bizarre accomplishment. That is absolutely insane. Sadly, after his brush with nuclear greatness, life hasn’t been great for Hahn. Following a stint in the Navy and Marines, he was arrested in 2007. Police caught him trying to steal the smoke detectors in an apartment complex to amass more radioactive material for an unknown purpose. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me… Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/diy-nuclear-reactor/

This Guy’s Magic Tricks Just Keep Getting Crazier…Holy Crap

, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

David Blaine’s magic is so good, it’s a little unsettling. He’s been frozen in a block of ice, buried alive, and has somehow managed to escape from impossible situations, all without explanation. Recently, Blaine stopped by “The Tonight Show” to share some magic tricks with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots. At first, it appears that he’s going to stick to simple card tricks, but the audience is in for a huge (and kind of gross) surprise. With every trick, things get a little bit crazier. Just when you think the performance is coming to an end, Blaine pulls off an illusion that no one saw coming. Read More: This Kid’s Amazing Coin Magic Trick Will Have You Questioning Reality I can’t decide if I’m more entertained or creeped out. Hopefully, he won’t make “aquarium stomach” part of his normal routine. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/david-blaine/

This Guy Appears To Make Short Skits While Playing With A Dead Body

, , , , , , , , , ,

Pretty much everything that can exist does exist in some form online. While this is exciting at some level, it’s also a terrifying prospect. Most of use aren’t disturbed enough to think of all the weird, crazy things that we sometimes encounter on the internet, but the many creeps who call the web home certainly are. And some sickos are a cut above the rest. Take, for example, a YouTuber who goes by Jake. Jake’s channel consists solely of disturbing black and white video sketches that seem to incorporate a dead body wrapped in a garbage bag. Saying that this footage is disturbing is putting it mildly. All of the short flickers of text that come across the screen in these videos don’t make them any better. One enterprising Redditor was able to piece together all of these texts. The result is actually a poem. Here’s a transcript: There was a lady all skin and bone; Sure such a lady was never known. It happened upon a certain day, this lady went to the church to pray. When she came to the church stile, there she did rest a little while; When she came to the church yard, there the bells so loud she heard. When she came to the church door, she stopped to rest a little more; When she came to the church within, the parson prayed ‘gainst pride and sin. On looking up, on looking down, she saw a dead man on the ground; And from his nose unto his chin, the worms crawled out, the worms crawled in. Then she unto the parson said, “Shall I be so when I am dead?” “Oh yes! Oh yes,” the parson said, “You will be so when you are dead.” Here the lady screams. This one might be the freakiest of all. (via Reddit) Well, I’m never sleeping again. I’d really like to know what exactly is happening in these videos and why, but I would settle for knowing whether or not that’s a real body. Watching This Powerful Laser Clean Rust In Seconds Is Absolutely Mesmerizing

, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

There are few tasks more infuriating than trying to remove rust from just about anything. That’s exactly why this laser is pretty much the best tool I’ve ever seen. This amazing device is called the P-Laser QF-1000. Like its much larger counterparts, the 1,000-watt handheld tool is meant for industrial applications, like preparing metal for robotic welding or removing residue from manufacturing molds. However, it also does an excellent job when it comes to making rust disappear right before your very eyes. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); Just watch this mesmerizing video of the laser in action. I could stare at this all day, honestly. But if you’re thinking about getting one of these for yourself, know that it’ll cost you a cool $50,000. I’ll pass. 5 Real (And Insane) Ways That People Used To Get High Back In The Day…Yikes

, , , , , , , , , , , ,

People getting high isn’t exactly new. In fact, it’s nearly as old as time. That being said, if you thought contemporary drugs were bizarre, you’ll be pretty stunned when you see the crazy nonsense people used to do back in the day for a little lift. 1. U.S. soldiers used their guns to smoke weed. During the Vietnam War, soldiers often made makeshift bongs out of their guns. They also tried to get high on C-4, but they stopped when too many soldiers got sick. 2. Using laughing gas for anything but surgery. Wikipedia When laughing gas was first invented, it was seen as a gag and was used at house parties to get people laughing and having a good time 70 years before it was ever used in medicine. 3. Cannibalism. Yes, cannibalism. Wikipedia Throughout history, people have gotten spiritual highs on human flesh. Gross, right? From Mayans to Romans, plenty of people have chowed down on their brethren. Leonardo da Vinci was even on board! 4. Ladies who added cocaine to their tampons were high as kites. Wikipedia Because medicine has always been a patriarchal mess, doctors paid little to no mind to women’s ailments. To remedy that pesky period pain, they recommended that women throw some cocaine on their tampons before inserting them. Great idea. 5. Eating mold and riding brooms. British Museum Housewives during the Middle Ages got high by brewing ergot, which is a form of mold that grows on rye. In fact, the high they got from it was so strong that they felt like they were flying. That’s why we associate images of women flying on brooms with witchcraft! (via Cracked) Say no to drugs, friends. Getting high isn’t worth it…especially when it calls for eating human flesh. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/high-on-history/

When Traveling To Colombia, Beware Of Devil’s Breath…It Can Turn You Into A Zombie

, , , , , , , ,

You might say that these days, the world is experiencing a bit of a thawing period concerning the war on drugs. Of course, the majority of them are still illegal, however, punishments for possession and recreational use of these substances have been significantly reduced in many parts of the world. That being said, there are still some drugs out there that you should stay away from forever and ever. One of those drugs is a mysterious substance known as “Devil’s Breath.” Burandanga or Devil’s Breath, as it’s widely know, is said to be found almost exclusively in Colombia. It is derived from the flowers of the borrachero tree. Wikipedia The drug is the stuff of folklore and urban legend in Colombia. It’s said that Devil’s Breath removes the free will of those on it and wipes all memories of their experience while intoxicated. YouTube / Vice In 2012, Vice dispatched one of its correspondents to the capital of Colombia to investigate the rumors. There, they encountered a wide variety of stories from people who believe they were drugged with Devil’s Breath. Some told of being raped, forced to empty their bank accounts, and in one case, convinced to give up an organ. Part of what makes Devil’s Breath so terrifying is that it can easily be administered to someone against their will. YouTube / Vice For the most part, Devil’s Breath takes the form of a simple odorless and tasteless powder. According to one drug dealer, the substance can be blown in the face of a stranger on the street. Then, within minutes, they’re fully under your control. “You can guide them wherever you want,” he said. “It’s like they’re a child.” Part of Vice’s investigation also found that the CIA allegedly attempted to use Devil’s Breath as a tool in interrogations during the Cold War. YouTube / Vice You can check out the full documentary in the video below. (via Daily Mail) Well, here I was planning a trip to South America this summer. I’ll probably still go, but I’ll just have to be wary about letting people blow strange powders in my face. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/devils-breath/

This Rare Deep Sea Jellyfish Is All Of Your Underwater Nightmares Rolled Into One

, , , , , , , , , , ,

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); If there is one species that Earth’s oceans are abundant with, it’s jellyfish. Thanks to climate change and the general warming of the planet, our oceans are becoming a much more hospitable place for all sorts of jellyfish. However, there will always be those more mysterious and elusive sub-species. Consider the stygiomedusa gigantea. It is a species of giant jellyfish that is among the rarest in the world. Over the past 110 years, there have only been 115 sightings. According to those who have studied it, stygiomedusa gigantea is one of the largest invertebrate predators in the world. While its sightings have been rare, luckily a few of the recent ones have been by unmanned ROV vehicles, which allow us to get up close with these terrifying, majestic creatures. Well, this is going to give me nightmares for a year. Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/stygiomedusa-gigantea/

Coldplay Surprises Sydney Fans in Impromptu ‘Sky Full of Stars’ Video

, , , ,

Coldplay‘s beautiful “A Sky Full of Stars” song just got the wacky music video treatment. Unlike the levitation-infused music video for Coldplay’s previous single, “Magic,” this one shows the band sporting weird musical contraptions while marching through the streets of Sydney, Australia. The instrument-laden outfits are an odd juxtaposition with the track’s romantic lyrics (“‘Cause in a sky full of stars I think I see you. You’re a sky full of stars, such a heavenly view”). Regardless of the garb, front man Chris Martin looks happy, a welcome demeanor for fans, considering he and Gwyneth Paltrow split up “‘with hearts full of sadness” in March after more than 10 years of marriage. Director Mat Whitecross filmed and released the video swiftly, recording the footage on Tuesday after the band asked fans on Twitter to show up for the taping. We’re shooting the video for A Sky Full Of Stars on the streets of Sydney tomorrow. Does anyone want to be in it!? Everyone Got Out Of Their Cars On This Busy Highway To Film What Looks Like A UFO

, , , , , , , , ,

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); When it comes to UFOs, I’m not really sure what I believe. While I certainly think it’s possible that some form of life exists on other planets, I also know that it’s really easy to doctor a video and then present it as evidence of an extraterrestrial sighting. This is why I’m torn about what really happened in this recent footage. On April 11, 2016, people driving on a highway in Guangzhou, China, suddenly stopped their cars and rushed outside to record a strange flying object with their phones. Do you think this is proof that UFOs exist? This wasn’t the only supposed sighting in Guangzhou. In 2011, the below footage emerged online, claiming to be one of the clearest videos of a UFO. However, it was quickly proven to be fake. (via Mysterious Universe) Nowadays, it seems like there’s a way to fabricate practically anything. But who knows what’s really out there? I sure don’t. This Woman Describing Her Encounter With A UFO In 1954 Is Disturbingly Convincing

, , , , , , , , , ,

Even though I love “The X-Files,” I’ve never seriously considered the possibility that UFOs actually exist. Most of the people who claim to have seen them seem a bit crazy, and their stories sound very similar to each other — especially when it comes to their lack of details. But one woman in Staffordshire, England, might just convince me that aliens are real with her eyewitness account of a supposed UFO encounter. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); Back in the 1950s, a woman named Jessie Roestenberg heard a strange sound while watching her sons play outside — and her story of what happened next is so convincing that it’s more than a little disturbing. Get ready to question everything you believe. The amount of detail she gives is amazing! Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to be looking at the sky more carefully from now on. You never know what could be out there… Read more: http://www.viralnova.com/ufo-eyewitness-testimony/
